Brief Profile
A First Class Graduate in Science with over 80% aggregate marks. Started my IT career
working for Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) from 1983. After a 18 month initial
exposure in LPG bottling plant at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, joined the EDP (Electronic Data
Processing) department of the organization in August 1985. During the past 30 years, I
have worked in almost all the sections of Electronic Data Processing (EDP), now termed as
IT department, viz.,
 Computer operations & batch processing
 Programming and software development ( JCL, COBOL, foxbase, C, etc)
 Database management like Ingres, Oracle.
 Desktop environment software packages like Foxbase, etc.
 Application Development in SAP ABAP, Java, etc.

SAP License Measurement & Additional License Procurement.
Every year, it is mandatory for customers using SAP software to run the SAP License
Measurement Program and submit the out to SAP for license compliance. The above task is
simple, but identification of users into category e.g. SAP Application Professional User,
Limited Professional User, etc. Is a challenging task especially from cost/commercial point
of view.
Identification based on roles/authorizations attached to user, strategizing using SAP GRC
action usage summary, liasing with SAP off-site & on-site audit team for license compliance,
procurement of additional SAP licenses are some of the tasks that was done by me during
the last three years.
Also, evaluating newer types of Licenses in SAP environment, e.g SAP Business Analytics
Professional User for Business Objects, SAP NetWeaver Administrator, etc. need to be
factored in when organization goes in for fresh SAP software such as HANA/Business
Objects, etc.
Preparation for introduction of SAP HANA in BPCL :
BPCL has been using SAP Business Intelligence right from version 3.0B. During the coming
financial year, preparation of justification for better analytics using in-memory computing
and the power of Business Objects was prepared by me and approval sought from the
Company Board for investing in the SAP License for HANA and Business Objects.
The implementation would be in phases comprising of :
 Moving prior year queries ( upto current financial year) into Sybase IQ
 Configuring SAP BW HANA for current year and year -1.
The project has been approved and license procurement for SAP software has since been
done. Hardware procurement of applicance in progress during April 2014.

For the first time in 2006, the organization constituted a special group of 8 members from
different domain to present to the Board the IT strategy plan for the subsequent 5 – 6 year
time frame. Was associate Lead of the group interacting with various vertical and business
unit heads to understand the business initiatives and plan for corresponding IT initiatives.

Presented to the BPCL board, a set of 16 themes of IT initiatives, which could be taken up
and the business benefits that would be possible. As on date in 2014, all the 16 themes
have been implemented by the organization. Few of the themes proposed were :
Empowering Field staff - making available analytical data of customers to field staff visiting
key customers
High performing workplace - enabling the different workgroups to share ideas and plans,
and work towards them. Ready reckoner for new entrants to understand procedures, why
and how a set of tasks need to be done, etc.
Enterprise Service Architecture - an IT plan to ensure that applications and services are
