Henkilöauton polttoaineen kulutuksesta peräti kolmasosa kuluu kitkaan, millä on suora vaikutus polttoaineen kulutukseen ja hiilidioksidipäästöihin. Uuden teknologian avulla voidaan VTT:n mukaan kuitenkin pienentää kitkaa eri autonosissa jopa 10-80 %. Tämän perusteella polttoaineen kulutus ja päästöt vähenisivät 5-10 vuoden kuluessa 18 % ja 15-25 vuoden kuluessa jopa 61 %.
This publication identifies, and provides the rationale for, the most important research and development themes in services and supplies recommendations for the organisation and funding of services-related research in Europe. The major socio-economic and technological trends that currently influence the development of services have been identified also.
The research and development themes identified have been divided into four broad categories: markets and business logic, operations and enabling technologies, socio-economic environment and regulation, and conceptual and methodological issues. The recommendations concerning organisation and funding of research have been prepared specifically for EU-funded research.
The key recommendation is that services be designated as a priority area with a dedicated budget in the forthcoming Horizon 2020 – the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation – on account of services’ huge importance and potential for European economies and societies as a whole.
The work was conducted in association with AERTOs ERA-NET Coordination Action. The participating organisations included TNO (Netherlands), Fraunhofer ISI and IAO (Germany), Tecnalia (Spain), SINTEF (Norway), SP (Sweden), and
VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. The project received financial support from Tekes – the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation.
The Introduction chapter of the Case Study Summary report presents shortly the history of the Alternative work development also called New Ways of Working a.k.a NewWoW. The effect of enablers usually classified as Technological, Physical and Social are in the main focus.
Objectives are 1) perform three complementary approaches of enablers, concept and future of the organization using the same consultative process to engage work practices 2) find quantitative information of the aspects (what?) of the work environment affecting to personal life using a survey 3) find out qualitative information of “How aspects of the social environment enhance or disrupt Knowledge Work – on individual, team, organizational, societal levels. Why?” using focus group discussions in the same three organizations.
The first part of the report is describing the companies (VTT, Granlund and ISS) change plans and the target setting. The Optimaze engagement methodology and the results are described for the three organizations cases. The key work practices in three organizations have remarkable similarities: the need for communication, coordination, sharing, being with customers/partners/colleagues etc.
The second part describes a survey of totally 255 persons in three organizations addressing question “What factors of the social environment enhance or disrupt Knowledge Work?”. The SPSS™ statistical program was used to analyse the survey data. The differences between the Granlund, ISS and VTT in survey response patterns reflected mainly the fact that they are different type of organizations.
The third part describes the preparation, execution and the data analysis of the Focus group interviews. The transcripts were content coded both manually and by Atlas.ti, a software package for qualitative data analysis. The overall impression from the group discussion is that that most of the participants cared deeply about are issues that personally affect them or their close colleagues. The drivers for Job Crafting arise from three personal needs. Firstly to exert some control over the job to avoid alienation, secondly to build a positive self-image, and thirdly to connect with others. The three aforementioned needs echo the basic psychological needs of Self-Determination Theory: namely Autonomy, Competence and Relatedness.
VTT:n mukaan tuuliennusteiden virheistä aiheutuvat kustannukset voidaan jopa puolittaa, kun tuulivoimaennusteet tehdään useille maantieteellisesti hajautetuille tuulipuistoille yksittäisten tuulipuistojen sijasta. VTT on myös selvittänyt tuotantovaihtelujen tasaantumista Pohjoismaiden alueella. Tuloksia voidaan hyödyntää säätövoimatarpeen suunnittelussa ja tuulivoiman vaihtelun ennustamisessa.
The Tekes project Structural integrity of Ni-base alloy welds (SINI) was carried out at Aalto University and VTT during the period from 2010 to 2014. In nuclear industry applications, the degradation of Ni-base alloy dissimilar metal welds (DMWs), both in pressurised water reactor (PWR) and in boiling water reactor (BWR) plants, is an extensive international problem. The project participates with ongoing international cooperation in USA (Electric Power Research Institute EPRI, Alloy 690/52/152 PWSCC Research Collaboration) and in Japan (Tohoku University) for the conduction of new Ni-base alloy research. The research need is actual, especially because indications have been found in the DMWs in the reactor pressure vessel nozzle of BWRs similar to Finnish BWR designs and European pressurised water reactor (EPR PWR) -plant under construction contains a large number of varying and new types of dissimilar metal welds of which no previous experience is available.
The main focus of the project was to investigate the weldability of Alloy 690 base metal corresponding filler metal Alloy 52 and the properties of the welded joint. Comparable reactor pressure vessel (RPV) safe-end weld joint was made by narrow-gap tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding with Alloy 52 filler metal for research purposes. Also prototypical BWR reactor pressure vessel (RPV) safe-end weld joint was made with Alloy 82/182 filler metals. Determination of the mechanical properties and characterization of the microstructures of the welded joints were conducted. Crack initiation tests in autoclave were made in different environments. After PINC (Program for the Inspection of Nickel Alloy Components) round-robin program new PARENT (Program to Assess Reliability of Emerging Non-destructive Techniques for Dissimilar Metal Welds) round-robin program was started where VTT participated. Based on the PINC results, new non-destructive testing methods were developed to enhance the reliability of detection and accuracy of sizing of flaws in nickel-based alloy dissimilar metal welds.
