The steps to start a home vegetable garden are outlined, including assessing the site, deciding what to grow based on space and preferences, and planning crop rotations. Maintaining the garden is also covered, such as providing drainage, preparing beds, and using green manures or cover crops to improve soil health and structure.

Nuclear energy is a promising source of clean energy that can help address energy demands and climate change issues. However, it also carries risks from radioactive waste and potential safety issues from accidents that must be carefully managed. Overall, if developed responsibly with strong safety protocols, nuclear power could make an important zero-carbon contribution to the global energy mix.
32. Energy Sources ( Energy sources the fuel) A Series of Presentation to ...Mr.Allah Dad Khan
The document discusses various sources of energy, dividing them into conventional and non-conventional sources. Conventional sources include fossil fuels like coal, petroleum and natural gas. These are used in thermal power plants to produce electricity. Hydro power plants use the kinetic energy of flowing water for electricity. Non-conventional sources include solar, wind, biomass, tidal, geothermal and nuclear energy. These provide alternatives to fossil fuels and many are renewable but also have challenges like cost, land use or waste disposal.

Tidal energy is a renewable source of energy that harnesses the power of tides. It has several advantages, including being renewable as tides are driven by the gravitational pull of the moon and sun, being a green energy source that doesn't emit greenhouse gases, and having a predictable output. However, tidal energy also has disadvantages such as potentially impacting the environment, only being available when tides are surging for around 10 hours per day so requiring effective energy storage, and being an expensive new technology that is not yet cost-effective.

47. Although hydroponics today involves tables, pots, pumps,
and high tech lights for indoor gardens, it is nothing new.
It is a technique that was used by the ancient Mayans and
Babylonians.
The word was derived from the Greek words, HYDRO (water), and PONOS
(labor), literally, “water working”.
Hydroponics became popularized by the news media in the 1920s when a scientis
named Dr. William F. Gericke of the University of California when he put laboratory
experiments in plant nutrition on a commercial scale. In doing so he termed thes
nutriculture systems HYDROPONICS.
48. -Superior taste, quality, appearance, uniformity, and extended shelf life of
hydroponic vegetables.
-No sterilization of growing media required and plant nutrition is easily and
completely controlled within the nutrient reservoir.
-No weeding, no cultivation, no soil borne diseases or insects. Allows
uniform water availability to plants.
-Closer plant spacing is possible and movable plant channels allow greater
production from equal areas.
-Less water required and less fertilizer needed, and root zone heating and
cooling is made possible.
49. The Wick system is by far the simplest type of
hydroponic system. This is a passive system,
which means there are no moving parts. The
nutrient solution is drawn into the growing
medium from the reservoir with a wick.
The biggest draw back of this system is that plants that are large or use large
amounts of water may use up the nutrient solution faster than the wick(s) can sup
it.
50. The water culture system is
the simplest of all active
hydroponic systems. The
platform that holds the plants
is usually made of Styrofoam
and floats directly on the
nutrient solution. An air pump
supplies air to the air stone
that bubbles the nutrient
solution and supplies oxygen
to the roots of the plants.
The biggest draw back of this kind of system is that it doesn't work
well with large plants or with long-term plants.
51. The nutrient solution is pumped into the growing
tray (usually a tube) and flows over the roots of the
plants, and then drains back into the reservoir.
N.F.T. systems are very susceptible to
power outages and pump failures. The
roots dry out very rapidly when the flow of
nutrient solution is interrupted.
There is usually no growing medium used other than air, which saves the
expense of replacing the growing medium after every crop. Normally the plant
is supported in a small plastic basket with the roots dangling into the nutrient
solution.

54. The aeroponic system is probably the most high-tech
type of hydroponic gardening. The roots hang in the
air and are misted with nutrient solution. The mistings
are usually done every few minutes. The aeroponic
system needs a short cycle timer unlike other systems
that runs the pump for a few seconds every couple of
minutes.

Because the roots are exposed to the air like the N.F.T. system, the roots will
dry out rapidly if the misting cycles are interrupted.
