2. In 2003 I remodelled a kitchen. The brief was
to create a lot of packing space, to give an
“olde worlde” feel, and this on a tight budget.
3. The kitchen had to function well. The old
cupboards and appliances were removed
and the floor was retiled with terracotta
tiles. New floor to ceiling kitchen cupboards
were custom built on site. A paint effect
turned the plain MDF board into cupboards
that seem to exist in an ancient old kitchen.
Cupboard door handles were chosen for
there elegant antique look.
4. A pantry and broom
cupboard were built
into the North East
corner of the kitchen.
Provision was made
for the fridge against
the North wall.
As all the plumbing
was on the South
side the new kitchen
sink and dishwasher
were placed here.

7. The oven, hob and extractor fan were
placed along the West wall. This placing, in
a square kitchen floor plan, follows the
classic kitchen triangle rule. The three
points of the triangle are the sink,
refrigerator and stove/oven. A good work
flow is achieved as the cook can move
unimpeded between these three points.
