Product Design Trends in 2024 | Teenage EngineeringsPixeldarts
The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

37. De scholierenploeg van ‘76 -’77
bleek een gouden team. Hieruit
kwamen veel spelers die het
mooie weer gingen maken in het
eerste elftal
38.
39. Het seizoen daarop, ‘77 - ‘78,
werd het 1ste elftal voor de 1ste
keer in de geschiedenis van de
club kampioen in 3de provinciale
en mocht het na 17 jaar proeven
van 2de provinciale. Volgende
spelers zorgden voor deze
opmerkelijke stunt :
46. In het seizoen ‘78 -’79, het eerste
dus in 2de provinciale, behaalde
FC Poppel als debutant een
verdienstelijke 7de plaats
voornamelijk op basis van
karaktervoetbal.
47. Iedere tegenstander in de reeks
vreesde dit “karaktervoetbal” en
kwam dan ook steeds met een
bang hartje richting het
duivelskuiltje. Dat het wel eens
uit de hand liep weten ze in
Verbr. Arendonk nog tot op de
dag van vandaag.
53. Daarnaast bezat FC Poppel ook
echte anciens,echte rotten in het
vak die hun hart verloren hadden
aan den FC. Enkelen van hen
werden dat jaar gevierd owv een
groot aantal wedstrijden die ze
gespeeld hadden in de 1ste ploeg
54.
55. Het seizoen ‘79 - ‘80 startte
veelbelovend en ook de
krantekoppen zagen in Poppel
een gevaarlijke outsider voor de
titel in 2de provinciale.
56.
57. Hoewel FC Poppel onverwachts
een moeilijk seizoen doormaakte,
kon men toch enkele
opmerkelijke resultaten
neerzetten tegen zogenaamde
kampioenenploegen.
58. De “over-mijn-lijk” mentaliteit
tegen zo’n kampioenenploegen
zorgden er geregeld voor dat
Poppel op het einde van de match
2 punten rijker was.
Zo’n overwinningen lopen in
feite als een rode draad doorheen
de geschiedenis van FC Poppel.
61. Door blessures en pech bleek het
een zeer moeilijk seizoen. Indien
Poppel echter de laatste
thuiswedstrijd tegen Verbr.
Arendonk wist te winnen
degradeerde men niet. Men
verwachtte stiekem een beetje
hulp van de “collega-buren” uit
Arendonk,………...
62.
63. Nu snapt ook de jonge generatie
waar de enorme rivaliteit tussen
deze 2 clubs vandaan komt!
64. Het seizoen ‘80 - ‘81 werd dus
terug in 3de provinciale aangevat.
De ambities : een rustig seizoen
met af en toe een positieve
uitschieter!
66. Een positieve uitschieter was er,
maar van een rustig seizoen kon
men op zijn zachtst gezegd niet
van spreken!!!
67. In dat seizoen kondigde
miljoenenploeg en gedoodverfde
favoriet Netezonen zich aan in
het duivelskuiltje. En ja hoor, de
“over-mijn-lijk” mentaliteit was
er weer. Ondanks een zeer zwak
leidend (en omgekocht?) trio wist
Poppel toch de volle buit te halen
tegen de kampioenen.
68. 2 - 1 werd het door goals van
Peter Van Berkel en Jules Devue
nadat het trio om onbekende
redenen reeds 2 loepzuivere goals
van Poppel had afgekeurd.
MAAR……………...
69.
70. Het bloed kookte in Poppel na zoveel
onrecht. Bleek dat Poppel de week erna
een inhaalwedstrijd moest spelen in…..
jawel Netezonen.
De kampioenenploeg werd na een
harde wedstrijd, gekruid met 7 gele
kaarten, terug op zijn plaats gezet na
een 0 - 0 gelijkspel.
71. Het 2de seizoen in 3de provinciale
werd een voltreffer. Poppel werd net
geen kampioen, Sefa ging immers met
de eer lopen, maar op de laatste
speeldag eindigde Poppel ten koste van
Sint Dimphna op de 2de plaats met een
rechstreekse promotie tot gevolg.
73. Een promotie, op de laatste speeldag
gehaald, dankzij een sterk gemotiveerd
Oud-Turnhout die belangeloos(????)
Sint- Dimphna in bedwang hield
waardoor Poppel na 2 seizoen terug
naar 2de provinciale mocht.
74.
75. Naast het 1ste elftal deed ook de pas
opgerichte veteranenploeg van zich
spreken. Zij geraakten zeer ver in de
Beker van België voor veteranen. De
meesten hadden al jaren in de 1ste
ploeg gespeeld en kenden nog de
“over-mijn-lijk” mentaliteit.
76. De finale werd helaas net niet gehaald
maar het was een unieke prestatie voor
zo’n “klein ploegske”.
77.
78. Het seizoen ‘82 - ‘83 was een
memorabel jaar voor FC Poppel. Na
jaren geploeterd te hebben in het
duivelskuiltje op de Heesdijk, beschikte
FC Poppel plots over een mooi
voetbalcomplex ,“ ‘t Smokkelgat”
genaamd.
79.
80. Het typische potige “karaktervoetbal”
(boerenkoolvoetbal of zoiets) verdween
hiermee ook langzaam en maakte plaats
voor meer technisch voetbal hoewel
Poppel zijn “over-mijn-lijk” mentaliteit
tegen gedoodverfde favorieten nooit
zou verliezen.
81. Dus ook niet in het seizoen ‘82 - ‘ 83,
waar op de 1ste speeldag een
verplaatsing stond naar de
miljoenenploeg Westerlo. Mede omdat
er voor de 1ste keer een
competitiewedstrijd op zaterdag werd
afgewerkt en er ongeveer 800 betalende
toeschouwers waren wist Poppel zich
weer te overtreffen.
82. Door een vrijschopgoal van Ludo Van
Rooy in de 90ste minuut behaalde
Poppel een oververdiend gelijkspel.
De kranten waren lovend over deze
wedstrijd en zagen 2 kandidaat
kampioenen die gemakkelijk in
bevordering hun mannetje konden
staan.
83.
84. Poppel kon echter, in tegenstelling tot
de latere kampioen Westerlo, dit tempo
niet aanhouden. Na een wisselend
seizoen eindigde Poppel toch op een
keurige 7de plaats.
85.
86. In dat jaar bestond FC Poppel 20 jaar.
Reden dus voor een feestje waarbij de
stichters van het voormalige Poppelia,
de voorloper van het huidige FC
Poppel, herdacht werden.
87.
88. Bestuur Poppelia bestond oa uit :
Louis De Jongh, Felix Van Parijs,
Janneke Ooms, René Van Beurden, Jan
Gladines (1ste trainer), Kees
Botermans, Marcel Wouters, Jan
Abrams,
Frans Van Den Borne (voorzitter)
89. Het seizoen ‘83 - ‘84 vroeg om
bevestiging in 2de provinciale. Dankzij
mooier en technischer voetbal en een
uitstekende keeper Peter Van Den
Borne eindigde Poppel dat seizoen op
een niet direct verwachte doch keurige
3de plaats.
90.
91. In het seizoen ‘84 - ‘85 werd er weer
geschiedenis geschreven in Poppel.
Voor het eerst mocht Poppel in de
Beker van België aantreden.
Tegenstander in de thuiswedstrijd was
Hautrage, een ploeg uit Henegouwen.
92. Heel Poppel zag al een volgende
thuiswedstrijd tegen bevorderingsclub
SV Mol. Dit was echter zonder de
waaltjes gerekend die met 1 - 2
kwamen winnen. Meteen was de droom
weg.
93. In tegenstelling tot wat bijna iedereen
gedacht had in het begin van het
seizoen, inclusief de pers die in Poppel
een kandidaat kampioen zag, eindigde
den FC dat jaar op een eerder
teleurstellende 9de plaats. Men was
beter gewoon geweest.
94. Enkele versterkingen dienden zich aan:
Hugo Heyns (Oosthoven)
Willy Verbeek (Wuustwezel)
Leon Peeters (Gierle)
Zoals gewoonlijk verliet niemand de
club!
95.
96. De volgende 4 seizoen speelde Poppel
een onopvallende rol in 2de
provinciale. Men eindigde steeds rond
de 7de, 8ste plaats maar een hoofdrol
was niet weg gelegd. Men had wel een
verrassing in petto maar dit bracht
uiteindelijk geen soelaas.
Welke verrassing zult u zeggen?
Wel…...
109. Of wat denk je van Boke
Mateusen links naast de bal?
110. Het seizoen ‘89 - ‘90 werd met de
zelfde Poppelse nuchterheid begonnen.
Een plaats in de middenmoot werd
geambieerd.
111. Een paar nieuwe spelers werden
daarvoor aangetrokken :
Peter Bierens (Reusel Sport)
Henk Van Poppel (SVG Tilburg)
Willem Thijssen (Longa Tilburg)
Eddy Smolderen (Dosko)
112.
113. 2 sterkhouders van het vorig seizoen
verlieten de club :
Peter VD Borne naar Verbr. Arendonk
Frans Lemmens naar Tielen
114. Mede door het inpassen van (voor
Poppelse begrippen) veel nieuwe
spelers wilde het voetbal blijkbaar maar
niet vlotten. Helaas werd Poppel na 7
jaar weer verplicht een stapje lager te
voetballen.
117. Bekende FC Poppel voor de 1ste maal
kleur aan het begin van het nieuwe
seizoen. Men wilde immers zo snel
mogelijk terug naar de interessantere
2de provinciale.
mislukken! Dus…..
134. Waarom niet voor een feestelijk
middagje zorgen en alvast de
blaaskapel uitnodigen om de
festiviteiten in te zetten. De match is
eigenlijk toch nog maar een
formaliteit, ja toch?
135.
136. Met die 3de plaats was er nog een
waterkansje op promotie naar 2de
provinciale via de eindronde. 2 van
de 4 ploegen stegen naar 2de.
Volgende ploegen speelden tegen
elkaar in de 1ste ronde:
Oppuurs - Hulshout 3 - 0
137.
138. De terugwedstrijden van de 1ste
ronde :
Hulshout - Oppuurs 1 - 0
Oppuurs geplaatst voor de finale
139.
140. Er werd nu volop gespeculeerd.
Iemand van iemand had gehoord dat
Poppel al zou stijgen omdat de 2
winnaars van de voorronde
automatisch zouden stijgen naar 2de.
Bleek dit echter niet het geval.
141. Poppel moest de eindronde winnen
wilde men promoveren. Oppuurs was
al wel zeker van promotie omdat zij
in de reguliere competitie de meeste
punten hadden behaald. Omdat
Hulshout zo nog een waterkansje had
kwamen de spelers van Oppuurs
opvallend gemotiveerd op het veld
142.
143. Ere wie ere toekomt : de beslissende
goal in de 117’ van de spannendste
verlenging aller tijden werd niet door
Gust VD Pol maar wel door
Erwin Haagen
gescoord!
145. Het daaropvolgend seizoen ‘93 - ‘94
was in één woord :
Fantastisch!
Men had echter de pech dat er één
ploeg in de reeks flink geïnvesteerd
had in dure spelers. Lille wilde kost
wat kost naar 1ste provinciale.
146. En wat gebeurt er wanneer zo’n
miljoenenploeg in Poppel komt
voetballen?…….
Juist,……..
147.
148. Lille bleek echter te sterk en
promoveerde verdiend naar 1ste.
Voor Poppel was het echter ook een
memorabel jaar. Nog nooit was
Poppel als 2de geëindigd in 2de.
Deze prestatie was uniek, zo dacht
men, dit zou men niet meer vlug
meer meemaken in het bescheiden
Poppel.
149. Door dit prachtig resultaat mochten
de reserven sinds mensenheugenis
met de “grote jongens” meedoen in
de provinciale reservenreeks. Voor
een club als Poppel was dit een
geschenk uit de hemel.
150. Dan komt seizoen ‘94 - ‘95.
Een seizoen om nooit te vergeten!!!
151. Het talentrijke FC Poppel, met de
gouden driehoek Davy VD Pol, Marc
De Bruyn en Edwin Vermeer,
omringd door Poppelse
karakterspelers brachten Poppel in
extase.
159. MAAR :
Voor het eerst in de geschiedenis
werd Poppel kampioen in 2de
provinciale! Dat een klein dorpje als
Poppel tot zoiets in staat kon zijn.
Zelfs aartsrivaal Verbr. Arendonk
moest toegeven dat aan dit Poppel
niet te tornen viel.
160.
161. Het seizoen ‘95 - ‘96 :
1ste provinciale
Een enige en unieke ervaring voor
den FC!!!
162. Ook in dit seizoen mocht Poppel in
de Beker van België aantreden.
In de 1ste ronde werd vierdeklasser
Gerhees Oostham op eigen veld
verslagen met 0 - 2.
Op het veld van Dessel Sport (3é
nationale) werd maar ternauwernood
verloren met
2-1
167. Op een bepaald moment stond
Poppel op de 4de plaats, maar mede
door langdurige blessures van
sterkhouders Ludo Van Rooy en
Marc De Bruyn verdween den FC al
na 1 jaar (weliswaar met opgeheven
hoofd) uit 1ste provinciale.
168. Eén opmerkelijk feit nog. Wie klopte
kampioen en miljoenenploeg Schoten
met de gekende “over-mijn-lijk”
mentaliteit?
Juist geraden : FC Poppel
169. Het volgende seizoen werd weer in 2é
provinciale aangevat… zou den FC
in staat zijn om terug naar 1é te
promoveren?
170. Mede door het vertrek van
sterkhouders Dave VD Pol en Marc
De Bruyn en doordat enkele
gevestigde waarden de gekende
schoenen aan de haak hingen
dienden er nieuwe jongens ingepast
te worden.
183. Alles leek goed te gaan met FC
Poppel… steeds met eigen jeugd in
2 de provinciale… tot er in het seizoen
2004 – 2005 plots donkere wolken
boven “het smokkelgat” dreven…
184.
185. Gelukkig heeft het gezond verstand
het gehaald … alleen duurde het tot
2011 eer FC Poppel officieel en
definitief op ‘het smokkelgat’ mocht
blijven voetballen.
186. Sportief bleef FC Poppel als
gevaarlijke outsider meestrijden voor
het felbegeerde promotieticket
richting 1 ste provinciale…
187. Nog steeds met Poppelse jongens
aangevuld met enkele
versterkingen…
