This gothic style
horror may appeal
to those who are
interested in
vampires and
targets an audience
who may relate to a
character like
Hutter who is
willing to do
anything and take
risks for his loved
one – therefore,
this production
demonstrates the
uses and
gratification theory.

The theory of binary
oppositions is clearly
demonstrated in this
film as it features
the recurring theme
found in many
productions - good

the hyperdermic

demonstrated since
the idea that he has
two different
personalities is
injected into their
minds straight away.

An ongoing enigma
is demonstrated in
this production since
the audience are
forced to question
who is responsible
for the murders that
serves to also act as
a demonstration of
the cultivation

The uses and

have been considered
throughout the making
of this film, since the
sharing of the stories
may be used for enter-

The non-linear style of
narrative creates an
enigma and may appeal
to an audience that
enjoy piecing things
together. It also
demonstrates the
cultivation theory.

Anthropomorphism is

The hypodermic needle
theory is evident in this
film since the production
follows a linear narrative
and as a result, the idea
of a haunted house is
immediately injected into
the minds of the
audience. Due to the fact
that the idea of this film
is fairly easy to follow
because of the style of
it’s narrative, a younger
audience may be
targeted during this film.

cultivation theory.
Additionally, it adds to
the ongoing enigma
which is entertaining
(uses and gratification

As a result of casting
the role of two
characters to be
attractive females,
males may be a target
audience for this film
since they may view
them as objects of
desire. Meanwhile, a
male protagonist is
R&B sensation Trey
Songz, who may be an
object of desire for
females, and acts as a
demonstration of
Dyer’s ‘starr’ theory.
