Satellite connectivity allows smartphones like the iPhone 14 to connect to satellites in order to send emergency messages or share location when cellular networks are unavailable.  Satellite connectivity relies on ,well,satellite.Unlike celluler
networks ,which rely on cellular towers in your vicinity,satellite
phones have the advantage of working im remote area.
 This is because while celluler towers form a pretty solid

location of nearby towers,in the absence of which ,the connection
could go bad,or become entirely useless.

the physical infrastructure on the ground - but you do
then need that infrastructure in the sky.
