OpenNebulaconf2017US: Hybrid clouds dancing with virtual machines by Jordi Gu...OpenNebula Project
Today, the model of hybrid cloud comes under the eyes of a lot of organizations. The idea of combining resources of public cloud providers with private depending on the terms of execution, the need of more resources, an extra protection of the data, more or less security in services with sensitive information, etc. are some of the capabilities that this model has to answer. The case of CSUC, acting as cloud provider and at the same time as user of external IaaS and PaaS services, is analyzed sharing its first experiences in the way to archive a real multicloud architecture to provide services for catalan universities and research institutions.

OpenNebula Conf 2014 | State and future of OpenNebula - Ignacio LlorenteNETWAYS
We’re moving into a world of open cloud — where each organization can find the right cloud for its unique needs. A single cloud management platform can not be all things to all people, there will be a cloud space with several offerings focused on different environments and/or industries. The OpenNebula commitment to the open cloud flows directly out of its mission — to become the simplest cloud enabling platform — and its purpose — to bring simplicity to the private and hybrid enterprise cloud. OpenNebula exists to help companies build simple, cost-effective, reliable, open enterprise clouds on existing IT infrastructure. The OpenNebula Conference will be a great opportunity to remind our vision, vision and commitment, to look back at how the project has grown in the last six years, and to give a peek at what to expect from the project in the near future.

Oscon 2017: Build your own container-based system with the Moby projectPatrick Chanezon
Build your own container-based system
with the Moby project
Docker Community Edition—an open source product that lets you build, ship, and run containers—is an assembly of modular components built from an upstream open source project called Moby. Moby provides a “Lego set” of dozens of components, the framework for assembling them into specialized container-based systems, and a place for all container enthusiasts to experiment and exchange ideas.
Patrick Chanezon and Mindy Preston explain how you can leverage the Moby project to assemble your own specialized container-based system, whether for IoT, cloud, or bare-metal scenarios. Patrick and Mindy explore Moby’s framework, components, and tooling, focusing on two components: LinuxKit, a toolkit to build container-based Linux subsystems that are secure, lean, and portable, and InfraKit, a toolkit for creating and managing declarative, self-healing infrastructure. Along the way, they demo how to use Moby, LinuxKit, InfraKit, and other components to quickly assemble full-blown container-based systems for several use cases and deploy them on various infrastructures.

Bio: "I love data because it surrounds us - everything is data. I also love open source software, because it shows what is possible when people come together to solve common problems with technology. While they are awesome on their own, I am passionate about combining the power of open source software with the potential unlimited uses of data. That's why I joined Google. I am a product manager for Google Cloud Platform and manage Cloud Dataproc and Apache Beam (incubating). I've previously spent time hanging out at Disney and Amazon. Beyond Google, love data, amateur radio, Disneyland, photography, running and Legos."

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

Builder.ai Founder Sachin Dev Duggal's Strategic Approach to Create an Innova...Ramesh Iyer
In today's fast-changing business world, Companies that adapt and embrace new ideas often need help to keep up with the competition. However, fostering a culture of innovation takes much work. It takes vision, leadership and willingness to take risks in the right proportion. Sachin Dev Duggal, co-founder of Builder.ai, has perfected the art of this balance, creating a company culture where creativity and growth are nurtured at each stage.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
