WORK EXPERIENCE.
Currently hold the position of locum Pharmacy Technician for Well Pharmacy. I have taken on
this role in order to gain more knowledge, experience and variety. In this role I liaise with my
area manager and the pharmacy managers of the Manchester stores. I stand in when they are
short staffed in busy demanding pharmacies including health centres.
Previous to this role I have worked in Community Pharmacy for 12 years. I qualified as a
Pharmacy Technician in 2008. It is now a requirement within the UK to register with the
General Pharmaceutical Council. In order to re-register each year I keep a record of continual
professional development.
My role includes working under the supervision of the pharmacist, accurately label and
dispense prescribed medication, validate prescriptions using standard operation procedures,
stock, ordering and date checking. Telephone and fax duties. Dispensing weekly venalink packs
and also substance misuse prescriptions. Working to meet set targets within the branch such as
medicine use reviews, new medication service, repeat prescription service and the new
electronic prescription service which requires me to hold an NHS card to access records under
the data protection act. I keep patient records on computer systems, support other team
members and work independently using my initiative. I have excellent communication skills and
organise my time effectively. I am able to remain focused under pressure which is vital in a busy
environment.
I also give advice to patients on over the counter medicines, minor ailment service, healthy
lifestyles, blood pressure checks and smoking cessation. I am able to identify when a patient
needs referring to the pharmacist or other health professional.
