Kali Linux is a Debian-based Linux distribution designed for digital forensics and penetration testing. It was developed by Offensive Security through rewriting their previous forensics distribution BackTrack, which was based on Ubuntu. Kali Linux was released on March 13, 2013 as a complete rebuild of BackTrack Linux adhering to Debian development standards. The developers of Kali Linux aim to make it available mainly for ARM devices and support as many wireless devices as possible to run on a wide variety of hardware.
