The K computer is a supercomputer located in Kobe, Japan that was ranked as the world's fastest in 2011. It has over 705,000 cores across 88,128 nodes connected by a proprietary interconnect called Tofu. While power intensive at 9.89 MW, it is relatively efficient at 824.6 GFlop/kWatt. The K computer is used for climate research, disaster prevention, drug discovery, and other scientific applications through highly parallel simulations.
