Sharing the Census findings Arizona Art Education Association Conference Arizona Music Educators Association Conference Arizona Thespians Association Festival National Dance Education Organization Conference Arizona Department of Education MEGA Conference ACA and AzCA Joint Board Meeting Arizona Center for Afterschool Excellence Annual Conference Arizona State Board of Education
Recommendations: policy IN PROGRESS Require schools and districts to sign an annual statement stating that they are teaching the arts according to the Arizona Academic Standards in the Arts.  Continue collecting and analyzing data on arts education; ,[object Object]
Undertake a stand-alone mandated arts education census in 2012-2013 to monitor progress since 2008-2009. ,[object Object]
Recommendations: TEACHER SUPPORT IN PROGRESS Collaborate with the Arizona Charter School Board and the Arizona Charter Schools Association to assist charter schools on the law requiring arts education in K-8 and high schools, and provide technical assistance to charter schools to meet Arizona Academic Standards in the Arts.
RECOMMENDATIONS: COMMUNITY IN PROGRESS Strengthen partnerships between schools and arts and culture resources. Develop better communication tools and strategies to connect arts and culture providers (teaching artists, cultural organizations, community resources) with schools. Strengthen education plans and education funding for large and mid-sized arts and cultural organizations.

  3. LynnOn to the census. Census findings released one year ago at Joint Arts Education ConferenceSince then many things have happened.Image not comprehensive, present additional information verbally:
  4. AlexWe’ve all worked to spread the gospel far and wide.Note that this does not include a long list of meetings, workshops, and other community events where committee members mentioned the census and its findings.

  9. AlexThe main focus of today’s convening is the community support recommendations.So why the last two agenda items?
  10. LynnCensus data told us Arizona schools were really good at leveraging partnerships and resources to provide high quality programming.
  11. LynnNew DOE program will address this recommendation.
  12. AlexCensus data told us there were the expected barriers to participation in arts field trips, but also the unexpected no obstacles!
  13. AlexPotential new collaborative program addresses this recommendation.
