This article discusses two examples of patient-driven medical innovation - an artificial pancreas developed by patients to manage type 1 diabetes, and a website called Crohnology created by a patient to share information on managing Crohn's disease. It finds that patients innovate when commercial solutions are not available to meet their urgent medical needs. Unlike producers, patient innovators develop solutions for their personal benefit and share their work freely without seeking profits. While safety cannot be guaranteed, patient innovation fills important gaps and should be supported through ethical clinical trials to test innovations.

The Importance of Black Women Understanding the Chemicals in Their Personal C...bkling
Certain chemicals, such as phthalates and parabens, can disrupt the body's hormones and have significant effects on health. According to data, hormone-related health issues such as uterine fibroids, infertility, early puberty and more aggressive forms of breast and endometrial cancers disproportionately affect Black women. Our guest speaker, Jasmine A. McDonald, PhD, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University in New York City, discusses the scientific reasons why Black women should pay attention to specific chemicals in their personal care products, like hair care, and ways to minimize their exposure.

20 jaar geleden was Gijs namelijk dood geweest.
I would like to show you a short film about the people we take care of, and the way we do it.
First, create dialogue with patients and the value our employees bring to their care. It became our new quality system, and now is a corner stone for quality of care in the Netherlands
Second, we started to bring technology to the heart of every day healthcare
Which will bring patients a new way of life, normal life, with some help of others they choose
These are all the partners that signed up for cooperating in the Academy. Included are payers of care, investors.. Etc (zie bollen)
Payers of care: health insurance companies and municipalities
Research partners specifiek noemen.
In January 2017, a health deal was signed by our private and public partners, striving for a well functioning eco-system to create acceptable, affordable, cost-effective innovations for Long Term Care. It is the first health deal within long term care and an important step forward.
The panel will enable us to ask users of long term care about their needs, as well as conduct tests with products in early stages. The panel includes patients, and professional as well as informal caregivers.
We are working on an algorythm to enable capacity planning based on the desired day and night rythm of patients. Wouldn’t it be great if they receive the care they need at the moment they need or want it? And not when the caregiver is planned to give it due to standard plannings.
In elderly care a pilot with this algorythm showed less waiting moments for the patients, less peak or stress moments for caregivers, and a reduction of costs.
We are exploring whether this algorythm could work for our patient population.
“Just in time diaper changes” is helpfull for patient as well as care givers
This house we develop for people with a mild or more severe learning disability with also some “anger management issues”, people that can be a danger to themselves or their surroundings. People that need 24/7 governance to ensure their safety. Usually we have to go in for every thing they ask for, as they aren’t able themselves at that point. And we have to go in and check up on them every 15-30 minutes. But imagine someone would check up on you every 15-30 minutes for the next 24 hours. You would get anger management issues yourself! This way, and we’re still building on it, we don’t have to go in as often as we used to, which causes less stress with the patient and shortens (preliminary results!) their time of excacerbation. And it reduces stress as well for the healthcare providers, as they know they’re in control more continuously with less blootstelling to danger.
Improving independent living for people with disabilities by using technology is our ambition. With smart and affordable solutions.
Here a model of the new building – to be delivered by the end of the year - containing appartments for our patients as well as rooms for us to conduct pilots with innovative solotions.
