- Hi, I’m Joao Carapinha and in the next 5 minutes I’ll provide you with an overview of my work what I aim to achieve in the future. - I’m currently completing my PhD in Law, Policy and Society which is an interdisciplinary program at Northeastern University in Boston. PhD course modules include Global Business Regulation, Economics and Law, International Economic Development, and Strategizing Public Policy. Businesses operate in complex environments and much of their profitability is determined by law, regulation, and policy. Many businesses react to changes in these areas often when it is too late, I believe that much of it can be proactively addressed and integrated into their ongoing operations. I completed my Masters degree in Public and Development Management where I choose to specialize in Economic Policy and Public Finance. This postgraduate degree enhanced my understanding of how economies develop and how governments function. Many years ago I started my career with a Bachelor of Pharmacy from Wits University.
- Over the years I have supplemented my education with programs from the Institute of Directors in South Africa, programs in Pharmacoeconomics which I now teach at Northeastern University and MCPHS, Strategic Negotiations Executive Leadership Program from Harvard Business School, and Evidence Based Medicine and the Economic Evaluation of Medicine by the World Health Organization, to name a few.
- With this continuously evolving framework I have managed to sustain my professional contribution in key areas: 26 public presentations mostly concerned with domestic and international pharmaceutical policy, 13 peer reviewed journal publications 6 significant high impact projects 5 professional prizes and awards 4 principles in my Personal Leadership Charter (name them)
- Some of my leadership contributions include: NEC – PSSA VP – FIP Administrative Pharmacy Section EC – PCMA Director – ISPOR SA That I co-founded and helped establish.
- With all that being said – I possess skills in four domains of strategy, management and planning, technical and data analysis. They range from developing market access and pricing strategies, to their implementation that includes reimbursement negotiation, stakeholder engagement and financial planning. These domains are supported with key technical and analytical skills that cover pharmacoeconomic evaluations and policy analysis using Stata, SPSS and TreeAge software.
