Job Description: Director of Solution Architecture

REPORTS TO: ​Chief Strategy Officer LOCATION(S): ​Pittsburgh, PA
Summary:
This position will provide leadership in the growth and management of Summa's team of
Solution Architects. In this role, you'll be responsible for leading the evolution of Summa's
solution approaches, management of the SA team, as well as oversight of solutions prescribed,
estimated and developed by this team. In addition, you will function in the role of an SA
yourself, interacting directly with clients, prospects, and the Summa sales team to define and
estimate key engagement architectures, plans, and proposals.
Responsibilities:
● Manage and grow Summa's team of Solution Architects.
● Lead the definition of the methodology and processes for the development of Summa's
solution approaches ­ including engagement structures, prescribing customer
solutions/proposals, Summa engagement approach & best practices for delivering
Summa solutions ­ especially focused on early project phases.
● Work collaboratively with the CSO and other Directors and Strategists to identify, define,
develop and implement techniques to improve our solution development methodologies,
streamline our delivery engagement productivity, increase efficiency, mitigate risk, and
resolve issues for Summa when delivering work for our clients. ­ Especially focused on
early project phases.
● Work collaboratively with the CSO and other Directors to develop new offerings and
ensure that the established Solutions Development Methodology is followed.
● Ensure that the approach for developing solutions is refined and improved over time and
that feedback and recommendations are incorporated as appropriate.
● Team with sales management and delivery leaders to drive the evolution, prioritization
and planning of Summa's cross­functional operational processes and team enablement.

2. ● Develop executive relationships within key assigned accounts to support the positioning
and selling of Summa solutions alongside Summa Sales Team and Summa
Management Team members.
● Partner with Summa management to provide career path planning and coaching to
ensure consultant job satisfaction and professional growth for Solution Architects.
● Monitor and direct others to act in accordance with company initiatives, processes
and methodology including formal/informal performance review processes and feedback
as needed.
● Participate as a member of the “Extended Leadership Team” at Summa, providing input
and feedback to the other leadership team members, and accepting the assignment of
tasks and possibly the leadership of various strategic initiatives.
● Perform all of the duties and meet all of the requirements defined in the “Solution
Architect” job description at Summa.
Required Skills & Competencies:
● Demonstrated ability to lead people; organize, develop and motivate a team; get
results through others; excellent project management / planning skills
● Understands consulting as a business: demonstrates competency in the ability to
translate customer/business requirements into business solutions and successfully
position with customers
● Deep understanding of the full software development lifecycle from inception through
maintenance
● Understanding of application development consulting and the business of customers and
partners, including:
● Business acumen (client business drivers)
● Financial analysis (e.g., ROI & TCO)
● Sales and marketing
● Strong client service orientation – demonstrated ability to build effective
working relationships with stakeholders leading to “trusted advisor status”
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including presentation skills
● Demonstrated facilitation, collaboration and problem solving skills
Required Experience:
● 15+ years of experience, including 5+ years experience, within the professional
services/consulting industry, with at least 5 years demonstrated success in a practice
development/management role

3. ● Consulting services management experience
● Experience aligning technology solutions to customer business drivers in key industries
to Summa, such as financial services and healthcare
Education:
● Undergraduate degree in Information Systems/ Technology, Computer Science, MIS or
related technical discipline or equivalent required. Master’s degree preferred.
