Type of documentary
● The documentary is a mixed documentary as it
includes interviews, voiceover and archive
material.
● The narrative structure is non-linear and single
stranded.
Interviews
● This interview is filmed in an unconventional
way, there is no direct address and the rule of
thirds is ignored entirely.
● The documentary uses a combination of
unconvetional interviews and conventional
interviews.
Mise-en-scene
● The pictures of the models in the cutaways are
taken on polaroid pictures, this is a particular
convention of models and it allows the cutaway
to anchor it's relevance to the topic.
● A lot of shots are taken in an office, this is
typical of a model agencies environment and
allows the shot to anchor its relevance to the
topic.
Sound
● The phone in one shot allows audiences to
know that Diagetic sound was incorporated into
the documentary as the person on the phone
could hear the call as well as the audience
being able to hear it.
● The narrator is non-diagetic and speaks in
standard English, the narrator is also a male.
Archive material
● Archive material is involved although it is only a
minimal amount, the archive material involved
is that of catwalk fashion shows in New York.
