HIV/AIDS is caused by the HIV virus which attacks T-cells in the immune system. Over 34 million people worldwide live with HIV, including 3.34 million children. Common symptoms of HIV/AIDS include fever, chills, joint pain, muscle aches, enlarged glands, and weight loss. The virus can be transmitted sexually, from mother to child during birth, or through blood transmission by sharing needles. While there is no cure for HIV/AIDS, treatments include reverse transcriptase and protease inhibitors. Prevention methods include practicing safe sex and using clean needles.
