  the
  final
  mood
  board
  for
  Jazz

1.
  Colors

I
  used
  Adobe
  color
  tool
  to
  help
  me
  choose
  the
  matching
  colors
  for
  my
  mood
  board.

I
  chose
  the
  muted
  color
  mood
  for
  my
  mood
  board
  because
  it’s
  more
  comfortable
  on

the
  eyes.
  I
  used
  warm
  colors
  because
  they
  give
  the
  viewer
  strong
  emotions
  and

feelings
  and
  it
  makes
  the
  viewer
  thinks
  of
  sunlight
  and
  warmth
  and
  that’s
  what

jazzes
  all
  about.
  (infoplease,
  2012)

I’ve
  used
  bold,
  clean
  and
  jazzy
  colors
  because
  they
  are
  attractive
  and
  they
  catch
  the

eyes
  attention
  and
  stand
  out.
  As
  well
  as
  that
  the
  colors
  are
  strong
  and
  they
  deliver

and
  represent
  the
  Jazz
  massage
  in
  a
  very
  simple
  and
  elegant
  way.

  His
  name
  is

Louis
  Armstrong,
  I
  chose
  him
  because
  he’s
  one
  of
  the
  most
  influential

musician
  in
  Jazz
  history.
  I
  believe
  that
  Louis
  Armstrong
  represents
  Jazz
  with

his
  songs,
  characteristics
  and
  his
  personality.
  As
  you
  can
  see
  from
  the
  mood

  design
  that
  Louis
  Armstrong
  pictures
  is
  the
  emphasized

  it’s
  the
  most
  important
  one.
  The
  picture
  shows
  how
  playing
  Jazz

brings
  happiness
  to
  Louis
  Armstrong
  and
  it’s
  really
  obvious
  in
  his
  songs
  such

as
  the
  “

  added

the

  it

  I
  chose
  this

  because
  it
  has
  a
  sense
  of
  movement
  and
  the
  black
  background
  gives
  it

strong
  influence
  of
  classic
  and
  quite
  warm

  The

  is
  a

similar
  font
  to
  what
  I’m
  using
  for
  my

  the

like
  it’s

  I
  chose

  it’s
  expresses
  the

  Jazz
  fashion
  is
  still
  trendy

  it’s

  it’s

  it’s

  This

  I
  chose

  because
  they
  represent
  jazz

  their

4.Overall

In
  this
  mood
  board
  I’ve
  combined,
  colors,
  textures,
  picture,
  typography
  and
  Gestalt

Design
  Theory
  inorder
  to
  create
  an
  effective
  mood
  board.

• Continuation

I’ve
  used
  Continuation
  principle;
  the
  eye
  is
  led
  through
  the
  first
  picture
  of
  Louis

Armstrong
  towards
  the
  last
  picture,
  which
  is
  the
  dancing
  girl.
  I
  used
  this
  principle

to
  show
  how
  relevant
  is
  the
  elements
  of
  the
  mood
  board
  and
  how
  each
  picture

lead
  to
  another
  one.

• Proximity

The
  second
  principle
  that
  I’ve
  used
  is
  grouping
  the
  elements
  of
  the
  mood
  board

to
  look
  like
  one
  element.
  I
  used
  this
  principle
  because
  it’s
  more
  comfortable
  for

the
  eyes
  to
  see
  united
  things
  rather
  than
  random
  separate
  elements
  all
  over
  the

page.
  Moreover
  looking
  to
  the
  design
  united
  makes
  it
  more
  credible
  and
  easy
  to

follow
  and
  understand.

• Symmetry
  and
  order

The
  last
  principle
  that
  I’ve
  used
  is
  putting
  the
  design
  elements
  in
  order
  to
  create

a
  certain
  shape.
  I
  used
  this
  principle
  to
  make
  the
  mood
  board
  look
  neat
  and

understandable.

1       Jazz  Mood  Board     Justification       Zainab  Radhi   20900198
  • 2.
2     This  is  the  final  mood  board  for  Jazz  music   1.  Colors   I  used  Adobe  color  tool  to  help  me  choose  the  matching  colors  for  my  mood  board.     I  chose  the  muted  color  mood  for  my  mood  board  because  it’s  more  comfortable  on   the  eyes.  I  used  warm  colors  because  they  give  the  viewer  strong  emotions  and   feelings  and  it  makes  the  viewer  thinks  of  sunlight  and  warmth  and  that’s  what   jazzes  all  about.  (infoplease,  2012)     I’ve  used  bold,  clean  and  jazzy  colors  because  they  are  attractive  and  they  catch  the   eyes  attention  and  stand  out.  As  well  as  that  the  colors  are  strong  and  they  deliver   and  represent  the  Jazz  massage  in  a  very  simple  and  elegant  way.   (macmillandictionary,  2011)     2.  Pictures   • The  first  picture  I  chose  is  the  picture  of  a  famous  Jazz  musician.  His  name  is   Louis  Armstrong,  I  chose  him  because  he’s  one  of  the  most  influential   musician  in  Jazz  history.  I  believe  that  Louis  Armstrong  represents  Jazz  with   his  songs,  characteristics  and  his  personality.  As  you  can  see  from  the  mood   board  design  that  Louis  Armstrong  pictures  is  the  emphasized  picture   because  it’s  the  most  important  one.  The  picture  shows  how  playing  Jazz   brings  happiness  to  Louis  Armstrong  and  it’s  really  obvious  in  his  songs  such   as  the  “  what  a  wonderful  world”  song.  (biography,  2010)     • The  second  picture  is  what  inspired  me  to  choose  this  type  of  colors.  I  added   the  picture  in  Adobe  Color  and  it  created  the  color  scheme.  I  chose  this   picture  because  it  has  a  sense  of  movement  and  the  black  background  gives  it   strong  influence  of  classic  and  quite  warm  feelings.  The  Jazz  typography  is  a   similar  font  to  what  I’m  using  for  my  website.  Moreover  the  Jazz  word  is  look   like  it’s  dancing  which  give  the  users  the  feeling  of  the  music.  The  last   element  of  the  picture  is  the  Saxophone  and  it’s  an  important  instrument  in   Jazz  music.
  • 3.
3   •The  third  picture  is  similar  to  the  second  one.  It’s  shows  clearly  how  the  jazz   musician  is  engaging  with  his  music  like  he’s  apart  of  them.  The  picture  also   created  with  warm  colors  that  deliver  great  feelings  to  the  viewer.     • The  four  circles  represent  the  texture  that  I’m  using  for  my  website.  Four  of   them  included  colors  from  my  color  scheme  and  they  give  the  same  feelings.       • The  fifth  picture  is  a  line  from  Louis  Armstrong  most  famous  songs.  I  chose  it   because  it’s  identification  for  Jazz  theme  and  Louis  Armstrong  characteristics.       • The  sixth  picture  represents  the  Parisian  jazz.  Including  Eiffel  Tower  on  this   picture  shoes  that  french  has  a  long  history  of  Jazz  music.  I  chose  this  picture   because  it’s  expresses  the  relationship  between  Paris  and  Jazz.  (timeout,   2012)     • The  seventh  picture  is  for  a  girl  how  doing  a  jazz  dance  and  I  chose  this   picture  because  it  shows  how  jazz  has  it  own  style  and  theme  and  it  has   special  kind  of  dancing.  The  picture  shows  how  peaceful  the  girl  is  and  how   strongly  she’s  expressing  her  feelings  through  jazz  dancing.  (Bedinghaus,   2013)     •  The  eighth  and  ninth  picture  is  about  the  jazz  fashion  and  it  show  what  men   and  women  were  wearing  back  on  1920.  Jazz  fashion  is  still  trendy  these  days   because  it’s  casual  and  relaxed  clothes  and  it’s  allows  dancers  to  move  freely.   I  chose  these  pictures  to  show  how  the  world  is  affected  by  jazz  music  in   different  fields.  (Bedinghaus,  2013)     • The  last  picture  is  for  Louis  Armstrong  also,  playing  jazz  music.  I  chose  this   picture  because  at  the  top  of  the  picture  one  of  Louis  Armstrong  nicknames  is   written.  The  nickname  is  Satchmo  and  it’s  a  short  for  "satchel  mouth".  This   nickname  shows  that  Louis  Armstrong  was  a  very  talented  singer.   (urbandictionary,  2011)     3.Typography     On  this  picture  I’ve  used  two  fonts  that  I  found  them  suitable  together.  I  chose  these   fonts  because  they  represent  jazz  with  their  style  and  edges.  As  well  as  that  some   Jazz  albums  covers  uses  the  same  fonts  that  I’ve  chosen.  I  used  Google  fonts  tool  to   see  best  fonts  combinations  and  to  download  them.  The  fonts  that  I’ve  chosen  are   Julius  Sans  One  +  Roboto  Condensed  Bold.  (Pack,  2014)

4     4.Overall   In  this  mood  board  I’ve  combined,  colors,  textures,  picture,  typography  and  Gestalt   Design  Theory  inorder  to  create  an  effective  mood  board.       • Continuation     I’ve  used  Continuation  principle;  the  eye  is  led  through  the  first  picture  of  Louis   Armstrong  towards  the  last  picture,  which  is  the  dancing  girl.  I  used  this  principle   to  show  how  relevant  is  the  elements  of  the  mood  board  and  how  each  picture   lead  to  another  one.   • Proximity   The  second  principle  that  I’ve  used  is  grouping  the  elements  of  the  mood  board   to  look  like  one  element.  I  used  this  principle  because  it’s  more  comfortable  for   the  eyes  to  see  united  things  rather  than  random  separate  elements  all  over  the   page.  Moreover  looking  to  the  design  united  makes  it  more  credible  and  easy  to   follow  and  understand.     • Symmetry  and  order   The  last  principle  that  I’ve  used  is  putting  the  design  elements  in  order  to  create   a  certain  shape.  I  used  this  principle  to  make  the  mood  board  look  neat  and   understandable.  (creativebloq,  2013)
