Jasper Johns is an American artist born in 1930 in Georgia. He started drawing at a young age and decided he wanted to be an artist by age 5. Johns moved to New York City in 1948 to pursue his career as an artist. His early works in the 1950s featured subjects like numbers, words, and American flags, which helped inspire subsequent art movements like Pop Art. Johns was influenced by a friend who was also an artist and helped him with some of his early paintings.
