2. Who is he?
Jason Mraz is an American singer-songwriter.
He belongs in Pop rock, blue-eyed soul and
alternative rock genre categories.
He became famous after his performance at the
San Diego Coffee House Shop in 2000.
He is partly Czech, though he grew up in
Mechanicsville in Virginia and was born there.
3. Music Career - Live at Java Joe's
Released a live acoustic album in 2001, "Live at Java
Joe's" - a Coffee house type place at Ocean Beach.
During the live acoustic album performance, Mraz
performed with other musicians such as bassist Ian
Sheridan.
Mraz performed many jazzy-pop songs
He riffed off the crowd like a stand-up comic.
4. Music Career - Waiting for my
Rocket to come, 2002-2003
Mraz signed a contract with Elektra Records in 2002, and began
recording his first album.
Waiting for my Rocket to come was released and was a
relatively commercial success peaking at no. 55 on Billboard
Hot 200 & at no.2 on the Top Heatseekers chart.
"The remedy" a song featured in the album, was the first song
of Mraz's to enter the top 20 songs on the Billboard Hot 100,
peaking at no.15.
Mraz's friend Billy 'Bushwalla' co-wrote "Curbside Prophet"
that was featured in the album.
5. Music Career - Touring and Mr. A-Z,
2003-2008
Mraz was the opening act for Tracey Chapman in 2003 at the
Royal Albert Hall in London, and for Alanis Morisette in 2005.
Second album - Mr. A-Z placed at no.5 on the Billboard 200
album chart and in December, the album earned a Grammy
nomination for Best Engineered Album and Non Classical.
In 2006, Mraz's song "Life is wonderful" was featured in the
commercial of "Hilton journeys hotel".
6. In 2005, Mraz opened for the Rolling Stones
for five dates and later on in the year, he was one of the many
featured artists in the fall advertisement campaign for The
Gap entitled "favourites".
In 2006, Mraz performed for the first time sold out concert in
Singapore along with Noel Rivera as part of the Mosaic Music
Festival.
Selection for friends - a live online-only album was released in
2007, and "Plain Jane/Beauty in the Ugly" was featured in
Ugly Betty. The song was also released in Spanish.
7. Music Career - We sing we dance. We
steal things. 2008-2009
We sing we dance. We steal things. - Mraz's third studio album
was released in 2008.
The album placed at no.3 on the Billboard 200, which was Mraz's
highest charting album to date.
The lead single - "I'm yours" lead Mraz to his international
breakthrough, where it was placed no.1 on the AAA charts in USA
and no.6 on the Billboard Hot 100, which was up there for 76
weeks, beating the previous record of 69 weeks set by LeAnn
Rimes' How do I live.
8. The song also received 5x platinum certification from the
RIAA for sales of over 5 million.
"I'm yours" also topped charts in New Zealand and Norway,
and peaking in the top 10 of multiple international charts.
The song earned Mraz several Grammy nominations such as
'Song of the year' and 'Best male vocal performance' in 2009,
and the album was nominated for 'Best engineered album of
the year' and 'non-classical'.
On June 2009, Mraz was awarded the Hal David Starlight
award from the Songwriter's Hall of Fame.
9. Music Career - Love is a four letter
word, 2009 & present
Since 2010, Mraz had already started writing and recording for
his new EP, but in 2011, he stated that he thought the EP was
not good enough, and therefore was postponed to 2012 for it
to be released.
During the time he was preparing for his new EP, Mraz
released "The
world as I see it" which was a song intended to be the theme
for the "In search of Incredible" campaign.
"Love is a four letter word" was eventually released early this
year - 2012, and the lead single "I won't give up" was also
released. The single shot straight to no.1 on the iTunes.
"I won't give up" was nominated for the Teen Choice awards
for best love song.
