Responsible for digital initiatives, goals and objectives
across all platforms as deputy editor for the largest
department at The Washington Post. Re-imagined and
directed the evolution of regional web content to meet
ever-changing needs of web readers. Launched the
popular washingtonpost.com/regional page, resulting
in unprecedented and important growth in page views
and audience. As part of founding committee of The
Post’s News University, provided training and guidance
to entire staff on smart web practices. Part of an elite
team that created the Washington Post’s first digital
ethics guidelines.

4. The Virginian-Pilot
2004-2010
Online News Director: Created the newspaper’s first
online/digital journalism team. Duties included identifying
processes to produce more and better online content,
ramping up breaking news efforts, providing newsroom
training, working with vendors and contractors.
Responsible for statistical reports and analysis.
Senior Editor: Supervised high-visibility, highly productive
reporting teams and their editors: the military and
politics/government teams; and reporters who cover
medicine, health, environment, transportation, religion and
consumer issues. Supervision of North Carolina offices.
Newsroom expert on Freedom of Information issues.

5. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
1994-2004
Assigned, edited and directed a staff of full-time
and part-time education reporters, providing
education coverage for main newspaper and five
zoned editions. Developed and wrote major
projects on education topics including a
critical, award-winning series on abusive
teachers. Editor for two
experimental, groundbreaking daily
sections, North Digest and Neighborhoods East.
Regular contributor to op-ed column "Saturday
Diary.”
