James Farmer was a civil rights leader born in 1920 in Marshall, Texas. He lost his sight and legs to diabetes but still faced segregation as a caddy. Farmer worked with organizations like CORE and helped lead freedom rides to desegregate interstate buses in the South. He was one of the "Big Four" early leaders of the Civil Rights Movement along with King and worked to promote racial equality through nonviolent protests and media outreach.
