2. What is the narrative?
• The song is about loss, and its effect it has upon
character in the song. Jake sings the song in first
person, resulting in the lyrics to become more
personal.
• It is unclear as to what his loss is or how he has
experienced this loss... whether it is from death, heart-
break...etc.
• However, it is clear that he is hurting as a result of his
loss, allowing me to focus strongly on the typical
conventions of teenage depression - characteristics,
body language, suitable locations...etc.
3. Goodwin’s Theory - Indie Rock
• Genre Characteristics – The video will be narrative/
performance based. Various shots will allow the viewers to
observe the clothing worn by the artist.
• Notions of looking – The video will highly focus on the
teenagers response to his loss, limiting the amount of
characters that will be used in the video.
• Lyrics and visual – The video will relate strongly to the
lyrics, expressing the emotion through various close-ups
and medium shots of the characters face and body
language.

…Locations must portray a strong level of
realism towards the mood and the lyrics of the
song. I want the video to be as intimate as
possible, capturing various levels of emotion
through the shots used throughout the video.
