2. PRELIMS
The theme of week one was pirates.
I learned a lot of math and science
surrounding the theme.
My knowledge for the human eye, the human
brain, and even the stars widened!
I know this knowledge will stay with me for
forever.

3. PRELIMS
We learned about myths that surrounding the
pirates.
These myths included the theory that pirates
wore eye patches because they didn’t have
but one eye.
We also learned that pirates didn’t live very
long because of lack of medical attention and
the common disease scurvy.

4. PRELIMS
The human eyeball
contains rods and
cones.
The rods are mainly
used at night (a.k.a.
Night Vision).
During our first
week we were able
to construct the
human eye.

5. PRELIMS
We visited the planetarium during our first
week at the PRELIMS Academy.
We took a look at the stars and all of the
constellations.
We also looked at the way to locate your
exact position by looking at the stars.

6. PRELIMS
During the PRELIMS
Academy, we took a
look into the human
brain.
We were taught
several parts such as
the cerebellum which
controls balance.
We even got to see a
real HUMAN BRAIN!

7. PRELIMS
At the end of week 1, we were involved in a
scavenger hunt.
Everyone was paired off in teams of two
people, and we all had to find our way by
using compasses.
We were taught how to navigate our way
through a course around campus.
I don’t mean to brag, but Nicholas and I were
the winning team!

8. PRELIMS
After we enjoyed our weekend with our
families, we returned at Adams Hall.
We were all anxious and excited to start the
week off.
There were a lot of fun things planned for us
to do, such as going to the GBI Lab and The
Fernbank.
I also was ready to begin trying to solve the
mysterious murder.

9. PRELIMS
Friday, after our scavenger hunt, we found a
dead body where the buried treasure was
found.
We didn’t know who committed the crime so
we would need some help trying to solve it.
We learned some math and science that was
helpful in solving the murder.

11. PRELIMS
I came to PRELIMS with the mind set that I
didn’t want to be a teacher. I was surprised I
was accepted because of my certain view on
my career choice. Since I have been here, it
has opened my eyes to a different view on
life. Teachers maybe are underpaid but if you
enjoy doing helping others, the pay won’t
matter. I’m glad I was able to experience this
because if I hadn’t I would have eliminated a
great career choice.

12. PRELIMS
I really have enjoyed experiencing the
PRELIMS Academy.
I met a lot of new people and made many new
friends.
I really am going to miss going to class and
learning new things I never knew before.
By attending this Academy, I was able to see a
lot of things I never saw before. For instance
a human brain and the stars up close

13. PRELIMS
The information I learned my two short weeks
here will definitely be used in my daily life.
I can’t wait to get back to school and educate
my friends on the material I learned.
I came here with intention of broadening my
education and I exceeded tremendously.
If I do pursue a career in education, the
material I learned here will definitely help.
