Can This Country Abide
by an Apathetic and
Spineless Monarch?
By Henri-Baptiste Grégoire
In the aftermath of the upset and panic that has
overtaken France, King Louis XVI has shamed the
country in a cowardly attempt to flee to Austria. On
June 25, he and the Queen were discovered in
Varienne, near the Northeastern border. Upon their
discovery, they were arrested and returned to Paris.
For a king to even think of abandoning his duty is
sacrilege. In one of our country’s greatest times of
turmoil, in a time of poverty, hunger, suffering, and
instability, the King saw fit to abandon his post. After
he ran this country into the ground with frivolous
overspending and debt, he continues to callously
desert the needs of his people. Is this the leader we
must trust to guide France out of this time of tumult?
Matters are made worse by the actions of the
conniving Queen Marie Antionette who has allegedly
been conspiring with her brother Leopold II, emperor
of Austria, to have him invade France and crush any
hope of revolution. The French people must open our
eyes to the threat of invasion, as unfortunately the
monarchy cannot be trusted to have the general will
in mind with their decisions.

Liberty is Equality!
The Triumph of
Equality: Putting an End
to a Parasitic Class
By Marie Jean Hérault de Séchelles
A system of injustice characterized by inherited
privilege and an impenetrable gap between the
wealthy and the poor has been upheld by the nobility
class for generations. In addition to living opulent
lives at the cost of the common people, this privileged
aristocracy also possessed substantial political
influence, which allowed them to maintain their
domination.
The Third Estate will no longer be contained by the
shackles of nobility. Emmanual Joseph Sieyes was
correct in his work titled “What is the Third Estate?”
We are everything and have been everything that
makes the Nation of France a reality. The nobility has
treated the Third Estate as a host and nothing more
for centuries, it is time to relieve ourselves of these
burdens to better perform the essential functions of
this great Nation.
The Nobility have designed a system to steal the
fruits of our labor while taking no part in the
struggle. While the Third Estate can call each other a
nation without the company of the nobility, the
nobility cannot call themselves a nation without the
company of the Third Estate. The Third Estate
embodies that of the French Nation, and abolishing
the fraudulent titles of nobility is the next virtuous
step we must take to ensure the General Will of the
people is met.
“And Jesus said to them: Beware!
Guard against every kind of
greed.” Luke 12:15
The Plight of the People:
An Examination of the
Third Estate
By Francois Buzot
Amid a state fraught with social issues, there stands an
argument in favor of a nebulous entity frequently referred
to as the General Will. Many speak in defense of it, while
others speak against it. But what is the General Will, and
why is it important?
The General Will is the selfless will of the people. It’s not to
be confused with the will of all, which is nothing more
than a collection of whims and personal interests. And the
General Will is best represented by the majority of the
common man, for the nobility has shown to be exceedingly
selfish.
The truth is that the Third Estate, making up most of our
population, is underrepresented politically, and that the
body and will of the people, the General Will, is therefore
suppressed. This leads to many injustices being committed
against our population, including, but not limited to
inequitable taxation, underrepresentation, hunger, and the
infringement upon land and property through game
reserves.
In conclusion, it is necessary that the Third Estate is
properly politically represented, so that it may grant its
constituents the liberty that is afforded to them by the
natural law, which itself is being infringed upon by the
current allocation of power to the first two Estates.
Church Lands: A Key
To France’s Salvation
By Jérôme Pétion de Villeneuve
If you glance out onto the streets of Paris, you will
see starving homeless Parisians begging and pleading to
God for salvation from their pain. There are more
citizens in the streets than there are people attending
mass. Now look at the first estate made up of clergy who
live comfortably and lavishly through the profit of the
church. Why must France struggle with debt while the
Church clutches onto its tithes and land? A solution lies
in the hands of the First Estate; however, they refused to
release their grip willingly.
The Church possesses approximately six percent
of French land. By selling Church land, not only will the
debt crisis of France be relieved, but the crisis of the
Third Estate’s poverty as well. However, after the
National Assembly’s first meeting, the Church was
evidently reluctant in providing this service to its
country. Yet this seems contrary to the aims of the
Church. Was it not in the book of Matthew 19:21 where
he wrote, “Jesus said unto him, ‘If thou wilt be perfect, go
and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou
shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me”?
According to their own teachings, the Church should
actively allocate their resources to assist the poor and
needy. Unfortunately, as the Church expressed during
the most recent assembly, this is not the case.
Is it not the responsibility of the Church to serve
the children of God as He intended, especially in their
most desperate time of need? The Church’s selfishness
and greed is a threat to the General Will and must be
regulated for the betterment of France. I leave you with
this, if the church fails to support France and the
hardworking third estate in their most dire need, then
who will? I pray for God’s grace onto all of us and for the
Church to realize their sinful behavior in resisting this
law.
