Smoking remains the largest preventable health risk in Europe, responsible for over 700,000 deaths per year. While smoking rates have declined overall since 1990, over a quarter of adults in Romania and Hungary still smoke daily. Obesity rates have also increased substantially since 2000, with over 28% of adults in Romania considered obese as of 2012.
