JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Integrated Wellness: Public Health Programs Liaison
SALARY: $10.50 per hour
LIMITED TERM EMPLOYMENT: 25 Weeks during Academic Year 2016/2017
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Working within the Seven Areas of Responsibility and Competency for Health Education Specialists,
the Integrated Wellness Public Health Programs Liaison (IWPHPL) will be and essential contributor
to discussions, planning and action around food equity on the Winona State University campus. This
person will work with the Food Equity Task Force, the Warrior Cupboard, and the WSU Community
Education Garden planning committees in partnership with multiple campus and community partners.
They will provide evidence-based research and evaluation, professional writing, and have the
opportunity to participate in primary research around the social determinants of health from a college
public health perspective. The IWPHPL intern reports directly to the Director of Integrated Wellness.
This position entails the following essential functions:
Collaborate with existing stakeholders and partners, and provide student leadership to issues
related to food equity
o Plan and participate in meetings with regards to the Food Equity Task Force, the WSU
Community Education Garden, and the Warrior Cupboard
o Work collaboratively with representatives from academic departments and student
service agencies on campus, as well as with greater Winona Community Partners
With guidance, explore and experiment with public health administration and strategic planning
for these initiatives where appropriate
o Identify and explore alignment with WSU Strategic Direction and Initiatives 2015-2020
• Establish metrics that evaluate progress toward goals of WSU Strategic Direction
and Initiatives 2015-2020
o Develop and evaluate innovative ways of improving student recruitment, engagement,
and retention through social determinants of health
o Advocate for health in all policies at WSU among peers, community and administration
Other duties as requested by the Director of Integrated Wellness:
o Provide oversight to other student interns and volunteers for the Warrior Cupboard and WSU
Community Education Gardens
o Prepare literature reviews and educational handouts
o Work in an ongoing fashion with website accuracy and efficacy
o Data entry and primary research
o Potential opportunities for participation in state and regional conferences
o Hiring and oversight of work study students and volunteers for the Warrior Cupboard
o Exploration of social determinants engagement with Sports Club Council and teams
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Current Winona State University student enrolled at least half-time (undergraduate
student, 6 credits; graduate student, 3 credits)
Available for ongoing, irregular meetings with campus community and greater Winona community
Available for regular weekly meetings with Director of Integrated Wellness
Ability to work independently – self-motivated & self-directing
Responds to guidance and direction provided by Director of Integrated Wellness
Reliable and dependable leader

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Student has interest in public health and community health education
Student has interested in working with faculty, administration and WSU students
Excellent graphic design skills including experience with the Adobe Creative Suite Programs and
video editing software

Arrives on time for shift
Displays a positive, problem-solving attitude
Presents him/herself in a friendly and professional manner
