People first - Auditing Utrecht Academic Hospital
ST: The Hospital Board required an audit on the digitization of patients’ records. The
operational manager however feared the outcome of the audit and therefore the auditor =
me and my team.
A: So I became friends with her first and convinced her she was in full control of the
process and outcome; no harm would be done to her position.
R: The manager relaxed and trusted our auditing team, which completed the audit in time
and within budget.
Natural improver - Redesigning Kodisions Business Model
ST: Ever since I became part of IT-company Kodision, I thought it should re-sell the
once-off applications it built for its clients. That way an excellent margin could be
made.
A: I made a continuous effort to demonstrate the new business model to management
and key players. They determine the pace of change. I teamed with key developers to
build prototypes, and created ambassadors.
R: Kodisions strategy is shifting from once-off On Premise Projects to SaaS. A new core
product (an application development platform) is being developed now specifically for
this goal.
Best Value - Call center app for The
Hague
ST: The front office of The Hague receives 600.000
phone calls per year, costing € 5 each to process.
Billing these calls to back offices was difficult and
cumbersome.
A: I analysed the agents needs and designed a user
interface that supported his routines. Integration
with the information architecture was essential.
Secondly I designed the reporting structure for
billing calls for specific back offices.
R: A new application was built that served both the
agent and management.
Agile & Scrum - Keeping deadlines and budgets in Zuid-
Holland
ST: The Province of Zuid-Holland (Rotterdam, the Hague) wanted to change
from paper subsidy forms to digital forms. The outcome should be that clients
can apply 24/7 and “first time right”-intake improves by at least 10%.
A: I focused on outcome (not functionality) and fixed budgets and deadlines. A
scrum team was installed. Developers and business people worked together,
learning along the way, validating best value within set budgets.
R: Budgets and deadlines were kept and optimal business value gained.
Business Analysis - Rabobank
Situation: Rabobank granted funds for
rebuilding historical sites. Deciding what
funds were eligible and how much might
be paid, was done manually, i.e. costly.
Action: I analysed the decision making
process and all the required information.
Secondly I designed a web intake
application to automate the process.
Result: Clients can apply online. The
intake process is completely automated.
