The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein tells the story of a boy and a tree who share a special relationship over many years. As the boy grows up, he continues returning to the tree to take from it whatever he needs, and the tree gives unconditionally out of love for the boy. Though touched with sadness as the tree gives more than it receives, the story conveys a message about the meaning of unconditional love and acceptance.

She represents different things that can influence a person's life. She may bring pleasure or regret, treasure or a price to pay. She can be compared to the changing seasons that mark the passage of time. She has the potential to turn each day into heaven or hell. She may reflect a person's innermost dreams or be hidden and proud. Ultimately, she is the reason one survives and finds purpose and meaning in life, even through difficult times.

She may be the mirror reflecting one's dreams, or the smile seen in a stream. She seems happy in a crowd but can be proud and private when alone. Honouring, Turks & Caicos' Director of Culture, David BowenMarguerite Anderson
On May 28th, the Raymond Gardiner High School's Performing Arts Club held a ceremony on the school's campus to honour Director of Culture, Mr David Bowen. Bowen was honoured for his contribution to the performing arts at Raymond Gardiner High and to the North Caicos community in general. Club Coordinator, Marguerite C. Anderson hosted the event where Bowen was presented with a plaque and a poem written in his honour, by 2nd year student, Lea-Beima Dorestin. The director subsequently demited office in June 2015.
The poem reflects on the speaker's life and past sorrows. As the speaker muses on the words of Theocritus describing the sweet years of life, the speaker is overcome with tears seeing the shadow that each year has cast. A mystical shape appears and draws the speaker back, asking who holds them. The speaker assumes it is Death but receives the answer that it is Love instead. The second stanza then describes how the speaker bore a heavy heart until seeing their beloved's face, with sorrows replacing life's joys until God's grace offered relief.
The document compares Jesus to Santa Claus, noting that while Santa lives at the North Pole and only comes once a year, Jesus is everywhere and an ever-present help. It highlights that Santa only fills stockings with gifts while Jesus supplies all needs and offers health, help, and hope. The conclusion is that there is no real comparison between Santa and Jesus, and that Jesus is the true reason for the Christmas season.
This PowerPoint Presentation on the poem "The Solitary Reaper" by William Wordsworth is one of my favourite poems for Wordsworth's great sense of love towards nature and aesthetic beauty. I have been teaching this poem along with some other Wordsworthian poems for my B.A. Degree students and External English Course (BUSL/EEC/Programme) students for the last 7 years or so. I certainly enjoy teaching Wordsworth poetry as I am a great fan of this great romantic poet. Rev. Nivitigala Sumitta Thero (sumitta2012@gmail.com; +94-714428905). Newton built upon the ideas of Aristotle and Galileo to develop his three laws of motion, establishing classical mechanics. Aristotle proposed that there are two types of motion - natural motion where falling objects exhibit constant speed, and violent motion for objects thrown upward. Galileo reasoned that without an external force, an object will continue to move at a constant velocity. Newton then stated his three laws of motion - the law of inertia, the law of acceleration, and the law of interaction.
The document discusses linear motion concepts including constant velocity, constant acceleration, displacement, distance, velocity, and acceleration. It provides definitions, equations, and graphs relating position, velocity, and acceleration over time for linear motion with constant velocity and constant acceleration. Examples and references are also included.
Unit 6, Lesson 1 - Force
Lesson Outline:
1. Force
2. Kinds of Forces
3. Contact Forces (Ex. Friction)
4. Non-contact Forces
A. Gravity, Weight, Law of Universal Gravitation
B. Magnetic Force
C. Electrical Force
D. Magnetism and Electricity
E. Strong and Weak Nuclear Forces
F. Resultant Force
Distance is the total path length travelled, regardless of direction. Displacement describes both the distance and direction from the starting point. Speed is a scalar quantity referring to distance travelled per unit time, while velocity is a vector quantity referring to displacement per unit time, including direction. Examples show calculating distances, displacements, speeds and velocities for objects moving in one or more directions. Bearings are used to describe angular displacement from north in a clockwise direction.
Lesson plan - Newton's first law of motionHarleen Singh
The document outlines a two-lesson plan on Newton's First Law of Motion for a 9th grade physics class. The lessons aim to help students understand and apply the concept of inertia through hands-on activities and designing their own demonstration. In the first lesson, students will perform three activities - flick a coin on a card into a tumbler, flick a coin to displace a stack of coins, and observe a toy rolling down a ramp - to observe inertia. They will then analyze the observations and discuss Newton's First Law. As homework, students will design their own demonstration activity. In the second lesson, each group will demonstrate and test their activity design while being evaluated on a rubric.
- Sir Isaac Newton formulated his three laws of motion in his book Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica published in 1687.
- Newton's First Law states that an object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
- Newton's Second Law states that the acceleration of an object as produced by a net force is directly proportional to the magnitude of the net force, in the same direction as the net force, and inversely proportional to the mass of the object.
- Newton's Third Law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
The lesson plan summarizes the key concepts around properties of matter to be covered in a 30 minute science period for first year high school students. The objectives are for students to identify general properties of matter, conduct an experiment, and understand the importance of properties. The lesson involves reviewing definitions of mass, volume, density, and weight. Students will participate in an experiment to determine the volume of irregular solids using water displacement. To evaluate learning, students will take a short multiple choice quiz on the concepts covered in the lesson.
The document discusses lesson planning and its importance. It provides guidance on what to include in a lesson plan such as aims, stages of a lesson, procedures, and learning aims. It describes the different stages as warmup, contextualization, vocabulary presentation, language input, controlled practice and freer practice. It emphasizes planning aims, considering student engagement, study and activation, and including objectives, notes and feedback.
The song questions whether people in impoverished parts of the world without basic needs like water and food are aware that it is Christmas time, a season of joy, light, and plenty in much of the world. It encourages listeners to think of those less fortunate who face dread, fear and the "bitter sting of tears" in places where nothing grows and to raise a glass to them under the burning sun, hoping they may know some joy this Christmas despite their circumstances.
1) The narrator is awakened on Christmas Eve by sounds outside and sees a young soldier standing watch in the cold night.
2) The soldier explains that he is proudly standing guard to protect the narrator's family and way of life, following in his father's footsteps.

“If You Forget Me,” Pablo Neruda
I want you to know
one thing.
You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.
Well, now,
if little by little you stop loving me
I shall stop loving you little by little.
If suddenly
you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.
If you think it long and mad,
the wind of banners
that passes through my life,
and you decide
to leave me at the shore
of the heart where I have roots,
remember
that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms
and my roots will set off
to seek another land.
But
if each day,
each hour,
you feel that you are destined for me
with implacable sweetness,
if each day a flower
climbs up to your lips to seek me,
ah my love, ah my own,
in me all that fire is repeated,
in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
my love feeds on your love, beloved,
and as long as you live it will be in your arms
without leaving mine.
“The Second Coming,” William Butler Yeats
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?
We Are Seven
William Wordsworth (1770–1850)
A SIMPLE Child,
That lightly draws its breath,
And feels its life in every limb,
What should it know of death?
I met a little cottage Girl:
5
She was eight years old, she said;
Her hair was thick with many a curl
That clustered round her head.
She had a rustic, woodland air,
And she was wildly clad:
10
Her eyes were fair, and very fair;
—Her beauty made me glad.

The document appears to be the setlist for a 2010 Gorillaz concert at Glastonbury Festival in England. It includes 18 songs performed, such as "Welcome To The World of the Plastic Beach", "Last Living Souls", "O Green World", and "Feel Good Inc." with De La Soul.
The document appears to be a table of contents for a songbook containing various Irish folk songs. It lists over 20 song titles and the page numbers they can be found on. Some of the song titles mentioned include "Carrickfergus", "The Hills of Kerry", "The Foggy Dew", and "The Wild Colonial Boy".
The document contains several poems about childhood:
1) "Above the Bright Blue Sky" describes a loving friend and home for children in heaven.
2) "A Light Exists in Spring" observes the light and color that signals the arrival of spring.
3) "All Things Bright and Beautiful" praises God for creating all creatures both great and small.
4) The remaining poems reflect on themes of childhood, love, trust, imagination, and healing from abuse.
The document is a collection of poems about nature and nostalgia. It includes 3 short poems: one about a swallow remembering its homeland, one addressing a seagull flying freely over the sea, and one reflecting on youth and how we cannot regain our past. The poems express themes of longing for the past, the freedom of birds, and finding beauty and memories in nature.
Learning Styles & Academic Theory (Learning Styles don't Exist)Jacqueline Bartram
This is a lecture I gave on Learning Styles and other Academic Theory for our Business School Students. It contains videos which probably won't work on this format but I've included the links. Most of the 'content' is in the notes section on each slide - I spoke it. Students were given a Twitter #tag to use during the lecture to reply to the questions posed and these where displayed on a twitter wall. There were also links to Excel files containing questionnaires that the students were encouraged to try after the session.
6 slide makeovers. The originals are random slides from a real presentation given to students.
There are notes on most of the slides to help explain thoughts and processes.
A presentation designed to be given live to students learning about slide design for the first time.
Feel free to hide the last slide if you want to use it yourself.
I have included speakers notes for each slide but obviously these are for guidance only.
A presentation designed to be shown live to first year university students to explain about plagiarism and help them avoid this and other forms of cheating
There are suggested speakers notes on each slide - but clearly these can be changed if you choose to use it yourself.
Instructions on how to make your own Christmas Card Garland Christmas cards. Simple but effective personalised cards that you can make alone or with children.
This an updated version of a presentation that I previously had on slideshare. It was designed to be given to a group of lecturers and post-graduate students at Hull University. It was designed as a short introduction to a longer training session looking at the mechanics of how to implement the ideas it contains.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375
