If you could work your way to heaven, if there was a bunch of hoops you had to jump through, then who really gets the glory? You do! But I have news for you, God isn’t interested in your glory. He’s interested in his own glory, because he’s the only one worthy of glory.

It is vital that we overcome our own conceptions of Jesus and open our eyes to see His glory. Jesus is not just a man, a teacher, a wiseman, or a prophet. He is Deity. Our Creator who came to be our Savior and Lord. Seeing His glory will transform us.
True greatness does not come from demanding our rights,
but from serving one another out of humility.

Putting Acts 15 and Galatians 1-2 in ContextSteve Thomason
What do Acts 15 and the first two chapters of Galatians have in common? They both talk about the first big debate over ethnic identity in the church. Some of the early Christians said you had to be circumcised and assimilate into the Jewish culture in order to be a true disciple of Jesus. They debated the topic in Acts 15 in Jerusalem. The Apostle Paul was very opposed to this teaching. That's what he's talking about in his letter to the Galatians.
This PowerPoint will walk through the backstory of Paul's life in Acts in order to understand the context for Acts 15 and the letter to the Galatians. You can download this PowerPoint and image pack and use it for your own preaching and teaching. Use one slide, a few slides, or all of them. Whatever works for you.

It Is For Freedom: When You’re Strong Enough To Help Someone ElseCompassChurch
Living in the spirit may mean that a significant amount of your energy will be spent GENTLY RESTORING other people who are deeply broken, using your RESIDUAL STRENGTH to help them shoulder stuff that’s too heavy for them.
Hating our real enemy is not hating the person that is causing us problems in life. The real enemy is the one who wages war in my soul, the real enemy is the sin in my own life that destroys the work of God in my life!
The most wonderful thing about God is not his knowledge or his abilities, or the fact that he is tracking in real time every atom in your body. The most wonderful thing about God is his love.
Friends! This is our core message; We believe in life, and life abundantly. Life that builds on itself, life that finds its source in the God and our connection with him that begins at the cross.
All Over The Map: Let’s Crash the SystemCompassChurch
Jesus cannot merely be an add-on to your life – He actually needs to change the entire system, from the inside out, so that even the economics change, the social order changes, the priorities change.
Be yourself on mission ready at any moment to help people find their way to God. No one is asking you to be the preacher. Just to be yourself, open and ready to what opportunities may come your way.
Won't You Be my Neighbor? The Neighbor You Wish You HadCompassChurch
As part of our "Won’t You Be My Neighbor" series, we collected food and socks and underwear for school aged kids that needed a little help. We also sponsored 11 children Yazidi children, who have been on the run from ISIS.
When we give to our neighbors, we resemble Him, because He gives. Believe it or not, that’s a pretty big deal, because God created us in His image, to resemble Him. And so when we do stuff like that, we are living out the very reason we were made.
“Won’t you be my neighbor?” is an invitation to help somebody know that they are loved and capable of loving… Love is at the root of everything; love, or the lack of it.”
- Fred Rogers
The Real Deal: Overcoming The World The Easy WayCompassChurch
So you either overcome the world or the world overcomes you. Either you love the world and you become a slave to the world and you buy all that it sells you, you drink all of its Kool Aid only to have it turn on you and destroy you in the end. Or you figure out a way to live in this world so that you can prevail in it. Even you might say, overcome it.
The Real Deal: How To Love People (When You Don't Really Like Them)CompassChurch
If I’m going to love poeple (when I don’t even like them) the way God has loved me I must: Reorder my life toward seeking the good for those whom God has placed around me.
There’s a lot of empty space with people making empty claims about God and Jesus and life and truth, but those quite frankly don’t add up, they sound good, but they’re hollow like this wall, and they can’t support the weight of your life, and if you try to anchor yourself to it, you’ll fall.
The Real Deal: The DIY Fake Jesus FilterCompassChurch
If you try to get me to get excited about a Jesus who went 90% of the way, that’s a crappy Jesus. If the Jesus you’re showing me did not completely cover my sin, so that my whole life is now lived in gratitude toward him, then you’ve got a FAKE JESUS.
People will say, "why does God even allow us to disobey him in the first place? Wouldn’t the world be so much better if he didn’t?" But at the same time, it is an opportunity for him to show His redemptive power, which is more than He could have done if we never needed to be rescued in the first place.
When we sin, it has ripple effects even to our own
children in many cases. So we have to understand the magnitude of it. How do we avoid sin and keep from destroying not only ourselves but the people around us?

4. “I’d be in big trouble if
Karma was going to finally
be my judge. I’d be in deep
s***. It doesn’t excuse my
mistakes, but I’m holding
out for Grace. I’m holding
out that Jesus took my sins
onto the Cross because I
know who I am, and I hope
I don’t have to depend on
my own religiosity."
5. 6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting
him who called you in the grace of Christ and are
turning to a different gospel— 7 not that there is
another one, but there are some who trouble you
and want to distort the gospel of Christ.
- Galatians 1:-6-7
6. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should
preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we
preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have
said before, so now I say again: If anyone is
preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you
received, let him be accursed.
- verses 8-9
7.
8. 10 For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of
God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still
trying to please man, I would not be a servant of
Christ.
- verse 10
9. 11 For I would have you know, brothers, that the
gospel that was preached by me is not man’s
gospel. 12 For I did not receive it from any man, nor
was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation
of Jesus Christ.
- verses 11-12
10. 13 For you have heard of my former life in Judaism,
how I persecuted the church of God violently and
tried to destroy it. 14 And I was advancing in
Judaism beyond many of my own age among my
people, so extremely zealous was I for the
traditions of my fathers.
- verses 13-14
11. “2 They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed,
the hour is coming when whoever kills you will
think he is offering service to God.”
- John 16:2
12. 15 But when he who had set me apart before I was
born, and who called me by his grace, 16 was
pleased to reveal his Son to me, in order that I
might preach him among the Gentiles…
- verses 15-16
13.
14.
15. 13Even though I was once a blasphemer and a
persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy
because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. 14 The
grace of our Lord was poured out on me
abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in
Christ Jesus.
16. 15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full
acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to
save sinners—of whom I am the worst.
- 1 Timothy 1:13-15 (NIV)
17. “My memory is nearly gone, but I remember two
things: that I am a great sinner and that Christ is a
great Savior.”
- John Newton,
taken from Bookends of the Christian Life by Jerry
Bridges and Your Mother
18. 18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to
visit Cephas and remained with him fifteen days.
19 But I saw none of the other apostles except
James the Lord’s brother. 20 (In what I am writing to
you, before God, I do not lie!) 21 Then I went into
the regions of Syria and Cilicia.
19. 22 And I was still unknown in person to the churches
of Judea that are in Christ. 23 They only were
hearing it said, “He who used to persecute us is
now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.”
24 And they glorified God because of me.
- verses 18-24
