Deep lake water cooling is a revolutionary new technology which uses large
bodies of cold water as a heat sink. It is environmentally friendly and uses a
renewable energy source. Water from deep areas in lakes and oceans, at a
temperature range of 4 to 10 degrees Celsius, is passed through a heat exchanger
where cooled water is produced. The technology has a very practical application for
large urban centers, which have massive heat generating buildings. A city such as
Toronto could draw from the cold waters of nearby Lake Ontario, and transfer the
water, through pipes, to large downtown buildings. The water acts as a substitute
to traditional air conditioners, and cools the building. When the water is warmed
(and no longer serving a cooling purpose, it can be sent further on into the Toronto
utility paths and be filtered for drinking water to city residents.
