Example:
If you are an economics major, and you are interested in immigration reform, you should approach a very specific aspect of immigration reform through the lens of economic theory and practice. A specific thesis question would not be, “How does illegal immigration influence the U.S. economy?” One could write thousands of pages on such a topic. Instead, a better question would be, “How do illegal immigrant hotel workers in Chicago impact the economy of Northern Illinois?” You would then want to do the research and determine the positive and negative impacts they have, ultimately trying to conclude how illegal immigration in this area should be approached ethically.

2018 was one of the hottest years of the century. And most people claim that the use of modern technology is the reason for such climate change. However, the government spends millions and millions of money on scientists who are researching on eco-friendly technology and source of energy. James Gustave Speth, then-President of the World Resources Institute, in 1992 wrote an article suggesting a national strategy to combine the goals of a healthy environment and a strong economy. He suggests that we can reduce pollution by recycling waste. This process makes products more affordable for people to buy and use. A year after year the eco-friendly technology is becoming more affordable for people. More people are installing solar panels on the roofs of their houses which helps to reduce the use of eco-harmful sources of energy. Scientists calculated that by the end of the XXI century everyone will be using eco-friendly tech products which will reduce the harm to the environment to zero.
Technology requires energy. In the early XX century, the coal was the main source of energy. Years after the coal was changed with oil. In the 1950s scientists started using a nuclear power as a main source of energy. However, none of them are eco-friendly. They deal inevitable damage to our environment, damaging the air we breathe, the atmosphere that protects us from Sun and soil where we plant our vegetables and fruits. The changes scientists started paying attention to the damage we are dealing with the environment in the 1990s. That was the time when scientists started researching on alternative sources of energy. Marine energy, hydroelectric, wind, geothermal and solar power are first renewable and alternative sources of energy. China is one of the first countries to start using renewable energy. In 2004, “The New York Times” published an article which states that the government of China declared by 2010 10 percent of the whole of China’s power will be generated through renewable sources. Indeed, in 2018 China’s 12 percent of power is generated through renewable sources of energy and China is not going to stop on this. Now they are planning to increase that number from 10 percent to 20 by the year 2030. With renewable sources of energy comes the eco-friendly technologies. Some of the tech companies are working on so-called “greenhouses”. This houses are entirely eco-friendly and do not require energy that is harmful to the environment. The price of these houses starts at 75000$ which makes it affordable for people. Also, solar and wind farms are being built which will help to reduce the use of energy sources such as nuclear power.
Tech products are more eco-friendly then they were before. For example, phones these days come with Lithium-ion batteries which lasts for years and requires less electricity. Gas powered cars are now being replaced by electric cars which do not produce.

Directions: Remember that the focus of this class is on questions in the Sciences or Applied Technology/Business.
Answer a Research Question derived from an appropriate topic in the Sciences, Applied Technology, or Business Science. Present appropriate background information, current research, and context for your Thesis (your educated answer to your Research Question). Display critical thinking and analysis of the issue or problem and provide a logical argument in order to arrive at a reasonable conclusion.
Your Research Paper should focus on an issue or problem with significant relevance to current research in a given field (2005 or newer), and should be an analytical essay with a Thesis, not simply a summary of data. Remember a good essay Thesis is Arguable, Provable, Logical, and Meaningful.
Display your knowledge of Standard American English writing at the College Level (including grammar, style, organization, and rhetoric) and of APA style to present data, integrate data, and document your sources both in-text and in an Annotated Bibliography.
Your Annotated Bibliography is a separate assignment attached to the end of your Research Paper. It will document your sources as an APA References Page and include Annotations that comment on each source you used in your paper.
· Your research will have to include at least 12 reliable sources of primary or secondary evidence. Use the Holman library to access research databases, you may also find Google Scholar useful. Make sure to verify your sources as appropriately academic (use Wikipedia to learn info and the bibliography from the Wikipedia page to track down better sources, but Wikipedia itself is not an academic source, for example).

Grading: The paper will be evaluated as discussed in the course outline with attention paid to grammar, organization, clarity, thoroughness of research, and use of APA format. Prokaryotic cells can individually adapt to their changing environments by
regulating the expression of their genes.
Bacteria can adjust to their environments using a special sequence of DNA
known as an operon, which controls the synthesis of protein in response to the environment. An operon has three key areas on the DNA strand: the promoter, the operator, and the transcription unit. The bacteria Escherichia coli need the amino acid tryptophan to survive. Amazingly, if tryptophan is not readily available in its environment, E. coli will actually make its own tryptophan from another compound by activating a metabolic pathway called the trp operon (trp for tryptophan). This metabolic process “shuts off’ as soon as tryptophan is readily available again. How the trp Operon Works Tryptophan is made using a sequence of five different enzymatic reactions. The genes that code for these five enzymes are clustered together on the same chromosome. A single promoter transcribes the entire cluster at once. In this way, the cell can turn “off” or “on” the entire series of functionally associated genes simultaneously. Let’s look at the molecules that cause these switches to be “on” or “off”. 1. How does gene regulation involving the trp repressor protein differ from what you observed with the lac repressor in the previous lesson? (2 points) 2. Based on your understanding of gene regulation in the cell and the function of the trp operon, describe how this process would be affected if there was a mutation in the operator region so that the operator could not carry out its function. Deep lake water cooling is a revolutionary new technology which uses large bodies of cold water as a heat sink. It is environmentally friendly and uses a renewable energy source. Water from deep areas in lakes and oceans, at a temperature range of 4 to 10 degrees Celsius, is passed through a heat exchanger where cooled water is produced. The technology has a very practical application for large urban centers, which have massive heat generating buildings. A city such as Toronto could draw from the cold waters of nearby Lake Ontario, and transfer the water, through pipes, to large downtown buildings. The water acts as a substitute to traditional air conditioners, and cools the building. When the water is warmed (and no longer serving a cooling purpose, it can be sent further on into the Toronto utility paths and be filtered for drinking water to city residents.
