Knowledge is open-ended and networked by its very nature. Libraries have traditionally been local nodes in that network, places where people can join the network, where learning is inquiring, not just acquiring. Yet the fluid, connected nature of knowledge runs counter to the current economic framework in which knowledge is given to corporations to be transformed into property, then returned to the network through a complex system of metered payments. Libraries have worked hard to keep knowledge free at the local level through negotiating licenses, implementing software to manage all the locks and combinations, and designing user interfaces that make the locks as invisible as possible. During Reading Strategies History
This document discusses various reading strategies that teachers can use to help students comprehend texts. It describes strategies like double entry journals, comprehension strategies, discussion webs, GRP, key sentences, marking in text, reading guides, text structure organizers, think alouds, and three leveled guides. Many of the strategies encourage active engagement with the text by having students ask questions, make connections, visualize, infer, synthesize, and determine what is important during reading.

Teachers have several options for reviewing vocabulary with students in an engaging way. Some of these include 25,000 Pyramid, where students work in pairs to identify vocabulary words on a pyramid-shaped game board for points; BINGO, where students mark vocabulary words on their board as the teacher calls out definitions; and crossword puzzles using vocabulary terms and clues based on definitions. Other review games mentioned are Memory, where students match terms and definitions; Password, where one student gives one-word clues for their partner to guess the term; and Pictionary, where students draw terms for their team to identify.

What do you know about Native Americans? When you think of Native Americans do you visualize scantily clad warriors with bows and arrows, or women sitting by tee pees wearing feathers and beads? Do all Native Americans live on reservations? Do all reservations have casinos? Focusing on the lives of Native peoples prior to European contact, their interactions with Europeans and Africans, their removal to reservations, and their contemporary experiences, this course addresses the many myths and misconceptions associated with Native American history and culture within the United States.

This course will emphasize the Core Values of Community and Respect as we explore how decisions made by people and groups in this country’s past relate to the values they embraced.
III. LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course students will:

Demonstrate the ability to utilize basic geographical (map-related) skills to investigate the following: Native American tribal demographics, Native American tribal movement and dispersal, Native American inter-tribal interaction, and interaction between Native American groups and Europeans in America;

Multiple Intelligences Lesson Plan
This lesson plan incorporates multiple intelligences to teach intermediate students about clothing vocabulary, fashion preferences, and shopping budgets. Students will discuss clothing for different seasons, make a personal shopping budget, compare store prices, participate in a fashion show modeling different outfits with background music, take and display photos, discuss their favorite outfits, read about and summarize the career of a famous fashion designer, and share tips for reusing and cleaning clothes to reduce environmental impact.

The document describes several teaching strategies:
1) Exit tickets are used at the end of class for student feedback and to check understanding. Students answer a question on paper before leaving.
2) Save the last word for me is a discussion strategy where students are grouped and take turns sharing opinions, with the moderator speaking last each time.
3) Probable passage uses quotes to help students predict what a reading will be about before reading it.
4) Four corners has students physically move to different corners of the room based on their agreement with a statement to discuss it in groups.
5) Wordwall posts vocabulary words where students can see and use them to make sentences each day.
