Constraction of new terminals in Muuga Port area.
The new terminals consists of a dredged access
channels, a turning basins, a reclamation areas, a
breakwater and a couple of berth pockets. The
reclamation areas were about 40 ha and 50 ha, ca 5
million m3 of sand was borrowed and used. Total
length of quay lines is about 850 m and 600 m.

The tasks of IPT during the various stages of the project have
been:
• Performing soil investigations, interpretation of results of various soil
investigation campaigns in order to formulate the suitable soil model for
design purposes. Conducting calculations.
• Compilation of quality control programs for reclamation works including
settlement measurements and vertical drains installation
• Determination of pile length and bearing capacity in vicinity of quay line
• Checking the different geotechnical calculations prepared by Contractors
• Regular quality control in labs and regular reporting
• Daily technical assistance at construction site

Fine sand in depth about 30…40
m and about 25…35 m below
the groundwater table – usually
characterized with Eo = 30 MPa
in the reports - E0 = 200 MPa in
reality
33 storage hotel with a 5 storage
part is planned on pile
foundation
Settlements of 33 and 5 storage
sections are to be equal

How is that possible ?
Cooperation :
•Tartu University – many dissertations defended during
the last 10 years (at least 3 PhD-s, 4-th
following in 2 weeks and next one in a year + 2 prof)
• off-shore soil investigations – cooperation with rig
and platform owners (we prepare instructions, they
drill, we prepare reports and advise civil eng-es)
• large field campaigns – we prepare instructions and
guides, field work done by partners, we prepare
reports
