Ion I.C Brătianu was a great Romanian statesman who contributed to Romania's entry into World War I in order to fulfill an ideal of national unity. As Prime Minister, he initiated important reforms to modernize the state and considered defending the interests and dignity of the Romanian people the greatest duty. Brătianu expressed what Romanians felt at the time - that moments of happiness in a nation's life can redeem ages of pain.
