Investigating The Weather  This presentation will provide information about our upcoming unit project.
Overview for Upcoming Unit Project This presentation will inform you about our new project coming up which is “Investigating the Weather.” Our activities will be lead by the following questions: Essential Question:        How does weather affect our lives? ,[object Object],     What are different types of natural disasters?      Why do we need rain? ,[object Object],      How does a tornado form?What causes a hurricane?       When does a tsunami occur?
Benefits of Our Unit Project Teaches students 21st century skills Allows critical thinking and problem solving dealing with the weather Involves group work and collaboration Gives the students a chance to take part in Role Play
Expected Roles Students will research and record a certain natural disaster, make a weather word wall, collaborate information, predict future weather, and role play a newscast reporting live from a natural disaster. Parents are welcome to come and watch the class’ final performance of their live report. They can also help and keep up with their child’s progress through their Live Journals. As the teacher, I will lead all activities with instructions and observe the students while they are working. I will also be doing different assessments throughout the project.
Standards and Objectives for the Unit SC(3)      12. Identify conditions that result in specific weather phenomena, including thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hurricanes   ELA(3)       4.Use a wide range of strategies and skills, including retelling information, using context clues, and making inferences to identify main idea, to comprehend third-grade informational and functional reading materials Students will identify weather words and create a weather word wall.  Students will record and predict the weather. Students will work cooperatively in small groups.  Students will take part in Role Play Standards Objectives
Project-based Learning This unit project that our class is working on is an example of Project-based Learning in the classroom. Project-based Learning is a great way to engage students in learning opportunities through projects. It improves 21st century skills, critical thinking and problem solving, group activity, student lead activities, and much more.
