Investigating Earthquakes By Anne Kozak C6
10 Expected Significant Earthquakes 1. By the city Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia. 11. By the Ryukyu Island Chain below Japan. 111. By Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. 1V. In the Atlantic Ocean by a fault line. V. By Equador and Peru V1. In the Pacific Ocean by a fault line. V11. By Chile. V111. By the California Transform fault . 1X. By the Himalayas Mountain Range. X. By Alaska.
Earthquake Spots Being Watched Japan California Around the “Ring of Fire” in the Pacific Ocean Latinamerica ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Chile_earthquake , http://www.nextearthquake.com/earthquake_predictions_japan_region.htm , http://www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2009/06/rim-of-fire-meg.html , http://www.nextearthquake.com/earthquake_predictions_southern_california_b.htm )
Revised Expected Significant Earquakes 1. #2- Below Japan 11. #7- Near Chile 111. #8- Near California’s Transform Fault
Questions What have I learned about earthquakes and earthquake prediction? I have learned that it is very hard to pick where exactly the next earthquake will hit, but we can predict where one might happen based on where they have happened before, where fault lines are, and where convergent and transform boundaries are. What factors influence earthquake prediction? Where they have happened before, where tectonic plates’ edges are/ fault lines are, and where convergent and transform boundaries are. Where on Earth do most of the really big earthquakes strike? Around convergent and transform boundaries.
The Big One Is, I predict, by Chile, as there have been so many there, and there is a long stretch of convergent boundary there. http://www.earth.webecs.co.uk/
