To give us context Mayo is the 3rd largest County in Ireland but with 1,245 km of coastline. We have an area of 5,500km squared and a population of over 130,000. Our catchment is our USP. Within 1 hour drive we have access to a labour force of nearly 1 million people, connected by modern road and railway and graduates from 3 top tier third level facilities. Our graduates in the West have traditionally been business focused with an emerging trend towards Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
Mayo is now home to the largest concentration of economic opportunities seen in Europe over the past 20 years. Our unique tourism experience has placed us as the Heart of the Wild Atlantic Way. Our products are attracting nearly 1m people a year. With direct commercial and domestic access through Knock Airport in the East of the County we are second to none for access, including a network of national primary roads and rail. We are conneted with high speed broadband and our renewable energy sector has placed us as world leaders in wave energy testing and wind energy. Shell has invested heavily in the extract of oil for export and the final cog in the wheel is the arrival of the sub sea fibre optic cable to Mayo, connecting New York to the EU and asia via Mayo. This opens up significant opportunities for us
