Does Sri Lanaka have comparative
advantage in BPO/ICT than other
region
H.M Dupani Charmila
Re No:313293776
• Sri Lanka is emerging as a Global ICT
destination of choice in number of key focus
domain area.
• Sri Lanaka is ranked among the top 50 global
IT sourcing destination by other region in Asia.
• ICT/BPO industry is already one of the top five
exporters in the country.
• Sri Lanaka’s ICT/BPO industry has been set the
daunting target of reaching one billion dollars
in exports by 2015 which will in turn require
several supporting factors to be
strengthened.
• Including the generation of 80000 jobs.
• The growth for Sri Lanka IT/BPO knowledge
service industry is foundation for our
education system and a lot of what we have
achieved in the past has been due to the
strength of our education system.
• He observed that the ICT/BPO industry is one
that provides very desirable workplaces and is
therefore sought out by the country’s youth
which in turn has made it harder for
manufacturing industries to find people to
work in such sectors.
• Sri Lanka is to be known as knowlagde process
outsourcing destination, We have to set our
sights on increasing our IT-BPO/KPO revenues
above the worker remittances which grow
annually by 15 to 20 per cent within the next
decade.
• If Sri Lanaka is to be known as a knowledge
process outsourcing destination, We have to
set our sights on increasing our IT-BPO/KPO
revenues above the worker remittances which
grow annually by 15 to 20 percent within the
next decade.
• The IT/BPO industry is depend on having a
steady supply of high quality IT-BPO
professionals.
• We have the potential to become south Asia’s
hub of excellence for IT/BPO.
• Information and communication Technology
continues to shrink the world.
• As major Players are facing increasing
difficulties in coping with global demand.
• Sri Lanaka is emerging as the world ICT
destination of choice
• The island is steadily transforming itself in to
the most preferred ICT hub in asia. Thanks to
the availability of the most precious resources
in the world.
• The Sri Lankan environment is highly
conducive for allowing global enterprises to
enjoy.
• Sri Lanka act as an offshore development
center and joint venture development centre
to several fortune.
• The Government also offers generous
insentives for investors in the sector, Including
exceptions from corporate taxes and import
duties along with grants and subsidies for
training programs.
• With a population of only 20 million,Sri Lanka
does not offer the size advantages of countries
such as china,India,and the Philippines.
• Sri Lanaka has developed strong companies
offering financial and accounting outsourcing,
open source, software development and
support and mobile application development.
• Sri Lanka already offers global companies
unique advantages as a location for delivery of
sophisticated knowledge services.
• I believe that people have diverse abilities
and skills and they should be harnessed and
cultivated because in a group.
• The first it and BPO companies established
operations in Sri Lanka as far back as the 1980
• The Industry extends well beyond the
traditional ideas of software development
centers, Large scale call centers, transaction
processing centers.
• Sri Lanka is a knowledge hub exporting its
human capital and skills to the world.
• The country has been exporting
Managers,Engineers,Doctors and other
Technicians to run tea plantation.
• Appral factories, Medical clinics and other
complex operations for many years.
• Now thanks to it global companies and customers
can tap in to these professional skills from
anywhere in the world.
• Sri lanka offers a unique mix of extremely low
costs among the lowest anywhere combined with
a highly educated ,English speaking population
with sophisticated technical skills and business
environment and infrastructure that is superior to
most low cost countries.
• Sri Lanka is among the safest lowest risk
emerging markets.
• Both in terms of personal safety and business
security.
• So according to the above added advantable
factors I can consider Sri Lanka have
comparative advantage of BPO/ICT sector
than other countries in the region.
