Robert Cade invented Gatorade in 1965 while working at the University of Florida to help hydrate and replenish electrolytes in athletes. Cade developed the first formulation of Gatorade which included water, sugar, sodium, potassium, phosphate, and lemon juice. This original formulation helped the University of Florida football team win their first Orange Bowl in 1967. Since then, Gatorade has grown into a billion dollar brand sold worldwide.
