DNU was founded in 1918 and is one of the leading universities in Ukraine with about 15,000 students and 1,500 staff across 18 faculties. DNU has been collaborating with Koblenz-Landau University for over 15 years through various exchange programs and EU-funded projects involving the training of teachers and students in computer simulation and social science modeling. The collaboration has involved the signing of cooperation agreements between the universities, honorary titles conferred, and student exchanges through DAAD programs. The universities are now participating together in a new EU-funded project called ECESIS running from 2009-2011.

3. DNU: the main data
DNU was founded in 1918 as a basic higher
education establishment of the largest industrial
region of Ukraine.
It is one of leading universities in Ukraine according
to the number of students (about 15000) and staff
(about 1500, including 600 professors).
There are 18 faculties and institutes with 104
departments in the university structure.
The university provides education in 78 specialities
covering all the main fields of human activity.
DNU has 18 studying buildings and 7 student hostels.
4. DNU: the main data
DNU has the highest (fourth) level of accreditation of
the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. By
the official ranking-list of Ukrainian high educational
institutions, DNU ranks as number six, and it
occupies second place within classical universities.
DNU is very active in international affairs. DNU is a
member of the International University Association. It
has established connections with educational and
scientific organisations in 24 countries and has formal
agreement of cooperation with eight universities. It
participated and participates in many international
projects, including Tempus, Tacis, Intas, Soros
Foundation, etc.
5. Collaboration between DNU
and Koblenz-Landau University
DNU collaborates with Koblenz-Landau University
more than 15 years. The contacts were started in
1992 at Kiev, during a conference on social process
modelling.
In 1996, as a result of continuing collaborations a
one-year Tempus/Tacis project “Teaching simulation
in economics and social science” was won.
In 1998-2002 a new big Tempus/Tacis project
“Simulation and Internet Courses in the Social
Sciences“ was realised.
More than 20 teachers and 50 students were trained
during these projects.
6. Collaboration between DNU
and Koblenz-Landau University
From 1999 to 2008 about 50 teachers and students
of DNU participated in the summer schools on
computer simulation, organised by Prof. Troitzsch.
In 2001 the rectors Prof. J. Klain and Prof. N.
Polyakov signed an agreement about collaboration
between the universities.
In 2001 Prof. Klaus Troitzsch became a honor doctor
of the Dnipropetrovsk National University.
In 2002 and 2007 nine DNU students prepared
master diplomas at KLU within DAAD programme
“Leonard Euler”
7. Collaboration between DNU
and Koblenz-Landau University
In 2002 and 2003 six KLU students studied in DNU
within DAAD programme “Go East”.
The next Tempus/Tacis project SMOOTH “System
modernisation of university management” with new
partners was won and carrying out from 2004 to
2006.
From 2009 a new Tempus/Tacis project “ECESIS –
Educational centers’ network on modern technologies
of management” with 19 participants from 8 countries
has been started!
