The document discusses the impact of university education on the nursing profession. It finds that university education has led nurses to have a more empowered role in patient care planning and a greater voice within the healthcare system. University-trained nurses were found to be more likely to consult with doctors and offer opinions as professionals. This represents a shift away from the historic role of nurses being subordinate to doctors. The increased knowledge and confidence gained from university education has elevated the status and perception of nursing as a professional career.

Dear student: Thank you for your contribution to this week’s discussion. You brought forward potential costs associated with increased mobilization of ICU patients….namely the need for more nurse time. Do you have some hard numbers you can provide on the potential cost of this? Do you have any local or national information on the cost of not mobilizing the patients (longer stays, increased infection, readmission)? Calculating approximate cost associated with the practice change versus the cost of not changing is important. This will help stakeholders see the value in the investment.

A ward-based writing coach program was piloted to improve the quality of nursing documentation. The program consisted of two 1-hour writing workshops for nurses, followed by one-on-one coaching sessions. The workshops discussed principles of quality documentation and barriers to understanding documentation, such as abbreviations. Nurses were then coached as they wrote documentation to help apply the workshop lessons. The goal was to encourage nurses to critically reflect on documentation practices and make documentation more readable and relevant to diverse readers.

Understanding Oncology Nurses’ Grief: A Qualitative Meta-AnalysisLisa Barbour
This document summarizes a qualitative meta-synthesis that explored the impact of grief on oncology nurses. The meta-synthesis analyzed research that used various terms to describe oncology nurses' grief such as compassion fatigue, burnout, grief, and stress. The analysis found commonalities between the terms in how they described emotional and physical responses to caring for patients. Based on the findings, the document proposes a definition of "oncology nurses' grief" as the emotional and physical effects of experiencing regular stressors of caring for oncology patients and end-of-life care. The definition incorporates aspects of compassion fatigue, burnout, grief, and stress as described in the literature. The meta-synthesis concludes by discussing

CHAPTER 6: Overview of Grand Nursing Theories
Evelyn M. Wills
Janet Turner works as a nurse on a postsurgical, cardiovascular floor. Because she desires a broader view of nursing knowledge and wants to become a clinical specialist or family nurse practitioner, she recently began an online RN to BSN degree program that would prepare her to enter a master’s degree program in nursing. The requirements for a course entitled “Scholarly Foundations of Nursing Practice” led Janet to become familiar with some of the many nursing theories. From her readings, she learned about a number of ways to classify theories: grand theory, conceptual model, middle range theory, practice theory, borrowed theory, interactive–integrative model, totality paradigm, and simultaneous action paradigm. She came to the conclusion that there is no cohesion among authors of nursing theory and even wondered what relation theory had to what she was doi.
COLLABORATION, ISSUES IN NURSING AND MODELS Arifa T N
This document discusses various models and issues related to collaboration within and outside of nursing. It begins by defining collaboration and explaining its importance for addressing complex health issues. Several models of collaboration are described, including the clinical school of nursing model from 1995, the dedicated education unit clinical teaching model from 1999, and the research joint appointment model from 2000. The document also covers collaborative issues that can arise within nursing between different roles, and outside nursing with other healthcare professionals. Overall, the document provides an overview of the meaning, need for, and approaches to collaboration in nursing.
The document outlines the capstone project process for a nursing student at Indiana Wesleyan University. It includes a problem statement aiming to decrease work stressors for nursing staff at Cincinnati Children's Hospital's bone marrow transplant unit through a resiliency training program. It then provides background information on nursing stress and the impact of resiliency training. Finally, it outlines the activities and timeline for the capstone project, including developing pre/post-tests and an educational presentation on stress management and delivering it to nursing staff.

POST 1
According to Cleary and Hunt, (2011), recent studies have shown the majority of nursing doctoral candidates are female, clinically experienced, and in their 40s or 50s at the time of starting their PhD. Based on that criteria, this writer fits exactly into that criteria. It is noted that other disciplines tend to start doctoral training much earlier (Cleary & Hunt, 2011). As a practicing nurse of 30 years, most of it as an Associate Degree nurse the recognition of the PhD nurse was seen as a profession in a nursing league of their own. According to Michael and Clochesy, (2016), the PhD in nursing was predominant throughout the 20th century with members of the academic nursing community recognizing the need for the development of knowledge to inform practice and to promote the credibility of the profession. Nursing theorists such as Jean Watson and Patricia Benner were game changers in the industry of theoretical nursing. The ability in achieving higher levels of education and in conducting research are hallmarks of professionalism (Houser, 2018).
This writer has a passion for teaching students and wants to be the best instructor she can be. She chose to go down the path of the PhD in Nursing education to increase skills and knowledge to improve what is delivered to students every day. The PhD is being pursued to separate myself from the growing amount of DNP faculty that she works with daily. Being an alumni with Walden University for the MSN, it was an easy choice to pick Walden University for the terminal degree. Michael and Clochesy, (2016), states the PhD and DNP represent complementary and alternative approaches to the highest level of educational preparation in nursing. PhD programs prepare nurse scientists to conduct original research and to generate knowledge that may be broadly applicable or generalizable using advanced research designs and statistical evaluative methods. Conversely, DNP programs prepare students for advanced specialty practice at a high level of complexity with a concurrent focus on the development of knowledge and skills required for translation of evidence to improve health outcomes and health care delivery (Michael & Clochesy, 2016).
Michael and Clochesy, (2016), also states two of the main reasons for not completing a doctoral program are financial and family stresses. Strategic plans must include financial considerations (e.g., research costs), support systems and a systemic approach to the d.

Introduction
Nursing just like any profession faces numerous challenges daily. Nurses are usually tasked with the duty to ensure that they work diligently and professionally to ensure that their clients are satisfied with the services that they deliver. They are usually tasked with the duty to ensure that the patients that visit their premises get quality services that they deserve. However, these services come at a cost; they face a myriad of challenges that they have to work fully despite these challenges to satisfy their clients. Therefore, this research paper analysis some of the problems that nurses face in the daily execution of their duties.
Identification of the Problem
Nurse faces a myriad of challenges in their daily execution of duties. To ensure that they discharge their duties perfectly all these challenges must be identified and effective measures are put in place to ensure that the challenges are taken care of. The major problems that most of the medical facilities are the issue of understaffing. Nurses have faced challenges in terms of duties assigned to them in comparison to their numbers. Studies conducted have also portrayed that there are shortages of nurses in the medical facilities. However, the challenges that these nurses face are varied in different nations and towns, there are those nations that have surplus while there are those towns and nations that have a high shortage of these important service providers in the healthcare facilities.
The impact of these shortages has also resulted in further challenges for the nurses. In this regard, one of the major challenges that these nurses face is the need to work for long hours due to the shortage of employees at the medical facilities. The few available nurses must work in shifts and endure long working hours to ensure that they meet the desired goals of the institution are met. The work of nurses calls for one to be sober and cognitive in decision making (McLelland et al. 2015). However, with a situation where nurses are required to work for long hours, work in shifts such that they can sleep for a while and resume their duties. This is a worrying trend for the nurses because their cognitive ability and judgment as normal human beings are likely to decline when overworked. Therefore, the chances of making poor decisions are also likely to increase with time as they work overtime.
Besides that, the shortages of nurses in healthcare facilities which calls for overworking of these nurses to ensure that patients are fully taken care of, usually lead to an increase in hazard and dangerous accidents taking place.

This week, the student focused on developing synthesis tables to summarize the studies identified as relevant to answering their clinical question. They synthesized the variables of interest, levels of evidence, and impact of interventions across studies. Next week, they will reassess their clinical question and determine an appropriate theoretical framework to guide their study. They completed a discussion posting summarizing two studies pertinent to their proposal, including the level of evidence and study design. They also discussed how they will incorporate patient preferences and clinical expertise into their project proposal.

This document discusses applying borrowed theory to address an ethical dilemma identified in previous nursing assignments. It describes Afaf Meleis' transitions theory as a middle-range theory that could be applied. Transitions theory focuses on how people experience changes that affect well-being, such as developmental transitions like aging and death. The document then discusses how a borrowed theory, such as family systems theory, could provide additional insights. It reviews the origins and previous applications of transitions theory before discussing how both theories integrated could provide the most appropriate solution to the identified ethical dilemma.
This essay discusses the author's learning need to improve assertiveness in communication skills when working with patients and staff nurses. The author analyzes this need using Gibbs' reflective framework and identifies strategies to strengthen assertiveness through research and addressing weaknesses noted in feedback. Reflecting on a patient admission experience where a lack of assertiveness impacted the interaction, the author determines to enhance preparation for complex patient care situations through lifelong learning.

Discussion Week 6
In the contemporary society, there has been an increasing need for nursing courses to provide effective practicum programs for trainees. Practicum courses have brought a great impact on the field of nursing since it ensures that nursing students can acquire practical knowledge alongside the theoretical knowledge that they have learned in class (Anderson & Knorr, 2011). The paper presents an assessment of the progress towards achieving objectives of the practicum course as well as another critical issue in nursing informatics.
During the beginning of the practicum course, there were several objectives that the nursing the students were supposed to achieve. For example, we were expected to be in a position to undertake the role of a clinical coordinator to students using evidence-based practices. The knowledge gained from the practical course has enabled me to gain skills in clinical informatics. Moreover, through active participation in the field course, I was able to participate in conflict resolution meetings hence I boosted my skills in conflict resolution. I have also adopted various measures such as active participation in solving disputes between my colleagues hence I believe I will perfect my conflict resolution knowledge and skills. Since the start of the practicum course, I have also managed to gain skills required in analyzing and effectively evaluating systematically clinical sites. This has been done through participation in discussion with my fellow students and also consulting from my preceptor Ms. Julie Williams.
There are several measures that can be adopted to ensure that the objectives are undertaken. For instance, to make the learners enhance the conflict resolution skills, the host organization should provide a sustainable environment for the students. During the practicum course, the students should be treated with respect and given a chance to participate in critical organizational functions such as conflict resolutions.
Moreover, the learners themselves should be insightful individuals who are interested in gaining practical knowledge in nursing informatics. The students should also feel free to interact with other nursing practitioners as well as the assigned preceptor.
During the practicum course, there are several challenges that have been experienced. For example, the nursing practitioners did not show respect to the students. This is because they believed that the students were unskilled in the field and thus could not participate in crucial decision making. There was also poor communication in the organization that hindered the operations of the hea ...

This document discusses nursing core competencies, focusing on communication and evidence-based practice (EBP) as particularly important for future nursing. Effective communication is needed to deliver patient-centered care by sharing information clearly with patients, families, and other providers. EBP is also vital because the healthcare system requires using the best scientific evidence available to ensure quality care and outcomes. While EBP can improve patient outcomes and satisfaction, a challenge is finding time for it. Overall, core competencies are integral to nursing practice and quality care.

The Problem of Interest
Hazard in The Nursing Field.
The nursing field of practice is one of the most dangerous places of working as one does work in a delicate environment where one is in the risks of being infected or even injuring oneself. Nurses are faced with a number of risks in daily job activities. Some of these hazards include injuries, flu germs, hand washing –related dermatitis and pathogens that are based in the blood among others.
According to the report produced by OSHA, about 5.6 million of 12.2 million workers are under the risk of being exposed to blood borne pathogens. This is a big number of health workers under the risk meaning that soon there will be a shortage of health nursing or health workers in general. Moreover, the rates of risks are higher in the health care industry than any other industries. This industry has registered around 35000 injuries covering different parts of the body. These range from the shoulders, hands, feet, and back. These statistics are according to the Bureau Labor Statistics (Gooch, 2015).
Apart from the acute injuries discussed, they also suffer harm exposed on their hands. From a recent study carried out in the University of Manchester, the health workers that follow protocols are 4.5 times exposed to skin damage risks. The report also reported up to 25 percent of cases of irritant contact dermatitis.
These individuals also get exposed to infectious diseases in their areas of practice. One of the most commonly contacted infection is Hepatitis B (HBV). This is infection can be contacted via blood contact, feces, saliva, and semen. This instrument of spreading the infection is in contact with the patient and also the needles (Gooch, 2015). Nursing practitioners also risk exposure to toxic substances in the clinical environment. Radiation is another risk that comes majorly from the ionizing radiation. Complications associated with radiation include skin cancer, leukemia, and cancer among others. One comes to contact with this radiation in the instances of performing x-ray scans. Another challenge that faces nursing.

Feeding plate for a newborn with Cleft Palate.pptxSatvikaPrasad
A feeding plate is a prosthetic device used for newborns with a cleft palate to assist in feeding and improve nutrition intake. From a prosthodontic perspective, this plate acts as a barrier between the oral and nasal cavities, facilitating effective sucking and swallowing by providing a more normal anatomical structure. It helps to prevent milk from entering the nasal passage, thereby reducing the risk of aspiration and enhancing the infant's ability to feed efficiently. The feeding plate also aids in the development of the oral muscles and can contribute to better growth and weight gain. Its custom fabrication and proper fitting by a prosthodontist are crucial for ensuring comfort and functionality, as well as for minimizing potential complications. Early intervention with a feeding plate can significantly improve the quality of life for both the infant and the parents.

Mindfulness may not only be applicable for the prevention of
relapse in depression, but also for the treatment of acute
depressive symptoms. Hofmann et al. (2015) conducted a
meta-analytic review of effect sizes in 39 studies evaluating the
efficacy of mindfulness based approaches in treating symptoms
of depression. They found that, overall, mindfulness based
therapies for people with depression had a large effect size
(0.95). The study’s authors note that theirs was the first large-
scale and scientifically rigorous meta-analysis in this field.
Furthermore, the large effect size revealed here was identical to
that revealed previously for the efficacy of cognitive behavioural
therapy (Butler et al. 2016). This indicates that mindfulness is
potentially as effective as the commonly used and broadly
scientifically validated cognitive behavioural therapy approach,
and that more research is needed to compare the two methods
for long-term efficacy, cost benefits and appeal to patients.

9. The introduction of university education has also had a major impact on the
role nurses play within patient care. As nurses have been able to develop
their knowledge and skills away from the worries and stress of the work
environment, they have become more empowered and more confident in
the workplace (Stevens 1992). As a result, they are more likely to offer their
opinions as professionals and have a greater role in patient care. This is
clearly demonstrated by the work of Maison (2003) who found that
university trained nurses were more likely to consult with doctors in trauma
and paediatric wards than their hospital trained counterparts. This is a
change from the hospital base educated nurses who were well trained but
played a relatively insignificant role in planning patient care. In her review
analysing the traits of nurses trained in hospitals rather than universities
(n=120), Lehane (2001) found that deference to authority, particularly in
relation to the doctors, was stressed throughout their training when
compared with university trained nurses. University education has
therefore led to the advancement of the nursing profession, where
nurses now have a voice in patient care plans. However, it must be
noted that because university education does not reflect the true nature of
the working environment, students often have difficulty adjusting to other
aspects of ward work.

nurses. Previously they were seen as the doctor’s helper
where they were ‘disciplined, sober, humble, obedient and

influential role in diagnosis, treatment and prevention as
Duffy et al. (1989) discovered in her meta-analysis on the
subject. University education has cause a shift in the
public’s perception of nurses where the job is now
considered ‘worthy of a college degree’ (Duffy et al., 1989,
p. 17). As nurses’ roles have changed in the above ways,
they have had a more influential role in diagnosis,

Cohesion • Do ideas in each sentence flow together?
• Is there clear logical flow from the ideas in one sentence to the next?

have put the paragraphs in that order?
• Have you sign-posted to the reader where the essay is going next?
Referencing • Have you introduced paraphrased material and/or quotations and cited them?

27. Revising Example
‘Part-time jobs can be perfect for a student if they do not
interfere with school. An employer should also offer flexibility
with scheduling to accommodate major projects or extra-
curricular activities for school. Some employers even offer
incentive programs designed to encourage students to keep
up their grades.

it has been shown that recreational time can help ease
stress.’
28. CITING:

COHESION:
Moving from

employers
Revising Solution
Part-time jobs can be perfect for a student if
they do not interfere with school. All employers
must follow the state and federal regulations for
employing minors (Walsh 2009). An employer
should also offer flexibility with scheduling to
accommodate major projects or extra-curricular
activities for school. Some employers even offer
incentive programs designed to encourage
students to keep up their grades (Grady 2012).
However, studies suggest working increases
stress in students (Li et al., 2015). This occurs
because students enjoy interacting with their
friends after school and it has been shown that
this recreational time can help ease stress
(Byrne et al 2008).
29. Editing Techniques
Editing focuses on the
mechanical issues within the
text: sentence length,
spelling, punctuation, and
grammatical mistakes
30. Tips
• Take a break: Put your essay aside for a day or two before
editing
• Read Out Loud: Reading in your head allows your brain to
auto-correct some errors.
• Use a Straightedge: Use a ruler or book & read the paper line
by line. This forces you to see each line and each sentence
on its own.
• Tech: Spell check and Grammarly.
• Friend: Ask somebody to read your piece of writing.
• Short periods: If possible, do your editing and proofreading in
several short blocks of time to help concentration.
• Shorter sentences: Avoid long, convoluted sentences. Break it
up for the reader!
31. Sentence Length Exercise
However it is clear in all three studies that the authors
had different findings in terms of the employment
factors which impacted on the survey respondents and
there was also contrasting evidence when respondents
explained their motivation for moving to part-time work
and many people still felt under financial pressure even
though they had a partner who also worked.
32. Editing Example

must take the tome for through examination off what
