During this time Chinese developed many sophisticated applications of
woodworking such as measuring tools for making pots, tables and
other pieces of furnitures.
One of the famous carpenter in China is Lu Ban. He was credited
as one of the originators of woodworking in China. According to history
he invented plane, chalk line and other tools to China. He is also the
author of the book “Manuscript of Lu Ban”. This book is a guide on how
to make pots, tables and altars.

Japanese are considered one of the best carpenter in the world
due to their advanced woodworking skills that can create big structures
thru the mastery of their fitted joint.
In Japanese wood joinery is called “sashimono”.

Wielding adzes, lathes, files, planes, saws, and drills, including the bow
drill, they constructed aqueducts and waterworks using wooden
scaffolding, built impressive warships and barges and erected strong
and lethal battering rams and catapults for attacking enemy cities.
They also crafted furniture, including tables and chairs, that
stylistically represented animals’ arms or were carved to represent
mythological creatures.
