This document summarizes a workshop on using online technologies for occupational therapy education and practice. It discusses various online tools such as blogs, wikis, podcasts and videocasts that can be used to create communities of practice, obtain client opinions and information, share resources, and communicate with clients. Specific examples are provided of how these tools can enhance practice, education and knowledge sharing. The benefits of voice over internet protocol for online communication are also reviewed.

Mpla 2009 The Impact Of Technology On Searching For Health Danielle De Jager ...dloftus
The Internet and other technologies are increasing opportunities for people to access health information. The Internet is significant in mediating the relationship between information and involvement in one’s own health care. Exchanges about health on the Internet are not just about disseminating information, or packaged health messages, but often involve linking to a shared community. Participation in health-related online social networks provides valuable support. A digital divide still exists, however the widespread acceptance of wireless communication and technologies by consumers who currently don’t have access to the Internet suggests that we should not underestimate the potential audience for technology innovation.

Ever spotted some great looking software only to discover you can’t get it, it doesn’t work, there is no documentation to help fix it and the developers don’t have the time or incentive to help? Ever produced some software that you want to be widely used or have folks contribute? What’s the sustainability of that key platform/library/tool /database your lab uses day in and day out? Are you helping the providers? The same issues stand for Data (or as we now say “FAIR” Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable Data) and its metadata. Is anyone looking out for Europe’s data services– the datasets and analysis systems you use and you make – the standards they use and the curators and developers who make them? Or is FAIR just a FAIRy story? I’ll tell how two organisations with quite different structures and approaches - the UK’s Software Sustainability Institute and the ELIXIR European Research Infrastructure for Life Science Data – are working for the common goal of better software, better service, and better research.

Building and Communicating Evidence of Effectiveness in OER through Collectiv...Robert Farrow
Much of the evidence surrounding the use (and re-use) of OER is fragmentary or anecdotal. The OLnet project has developed a software tool for effectively gathering, sharing and judging the evidence around key issues of OER. The Evidence Hub distills key insights from the cloud of discussion and opinion creating a thematically indexed, structured ecosystem of organisations, project, issues, recommendations and evidence for the use of those who form the Open Education movement. In this presentation we explain the key concepts behind the Evidence Hub and some of its possible uses.
SoundSoftware: Software Sustainability for audio and Music Researchers SoundSoftware ac.uk
Presented at the SoundSoftware 2012 Workshop: http://soundsoftware.ac.uk/soundsoftware2012
Sustainable and reusable software and data are becoming increasingly important in today's research environment. Methods for processing audio and music have become so complex they cannot fully be described in a research paper. Even if really useful research is being done in one research group, other researchers may find it hard to build on this research - or even to know it exists. Researchers are becoming increasingly aware of the need to publish and maintain software code alongside their results, but practical barriers often prevent this from happening. We will describe the Sound Software project, an effort to support software development practice in the UK audio and music research community. We examine some of the the barriers to software reuse, and suggest an incremental approach to overcoming some of them. Finally we make some recommendations for research groups seeking to improve their own researchers' software practice.

Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
LF Energy Webinar: Electrical Grid Modelling and Simulation Through PowSyBl -...DanBrown980551
Do you want to learn how to model and simulate an electrical network from scratch in under an hour?
Then welcome to this PowSyBl workshop, hosted by Rte, the French Transmission System Operator (TSO)!
During the webinar, you will discover the PowSyBl ecosystem as well as handle and study an electrical network through an interactive Python notebook.
PowSyBl is an open source project hosted by LF Energy, which offers a comprehensive set of features for electrical grid modelling and simulation. Among other advanced features, PowSyBl provides:
- A fully editable and extendable library for grid component modelling;
- Visualization tools to display your network;
- Grid simulation tools, such as power flows, security analyses (with or without remedial actions) and sensitivity analyses;
The framework is mostly written in Java, with a Python binding so that Python developers can access PowSyBl functionalities as well.
What you will learn during the webinar:
- For beginners: discover PowSyBl's functionalities through a quick general presentation and the notebook, without needing any expert coding skills;
- For advanced developers: master the skills to efficiently apply PowSyBl functionalities to your real-world scenarios.
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*
