Latin music originated from the blending of African, Native American and European cultures in Latin America and the Caribbean. It was brought to the United States through colonialization as European powers colonized territories in the new world and transported enslaved people from Africa. Latin music further integrated into American music in the early 20th century as many Latin Americans immigrated to the US, especially Puerto Ricans to New York City and Cubans to Miami, blending Latin styles with jazz.
