Intravenous Pyelogram Reason for exam: Fever of unknown origin Technical data: no-known allergies. 100 milliliter infusion through iv. No reaction noted. Intravenous Pyelogram: Following the intravenous injection of contrast material, several films were taken including anterior-posterior and oblique views showing that both kidneys are normal in size and configuration. The visualized course of the distal ureters are both normal. The bladder is well visualized on a delayed film and is within normal limits. There is a small amount of urinary residual on the post voiding film. Conclusion: Essentially normal intravenous pyelogram. Answer: Solution As the patient was suffering from fever of unknown origin. The possible cause of fever was assumed to be kidney infection (Acute pyelonephritis), urinary tract infection or bladder infection. So to have a clear idea the Intravenous Pyelogram was performed. It is an x-ray examination in which an injection of contrast material is used to evaluate the kidneys, urinary bladder and ureters. Since the reprts of intarvenous pyelogram was normal, the origin of fever is not the urinary system. Now the doctor can diagnose other organs to locate the origin of fever..
