A Brief of the Company
Infinity Solutions is the vehicle chosen by the founders who aspire in developing
and harnessing open source based IT solution for small and medium enterprises
to improve their business. Backed by an extensive IT consulting and system
development know-how from their past experience both as IT service supplier as
well as industry operator, the company thrives in providing a practical and
beneficial solution for the clients. Since 2008, the company have been providing
consulting service, application development and technical support to clients in
various industries, including manufacturing, health care, banking,

telecommunication and marine transportation. The company’s success has been
and will always be measured by the success or values realized by the clients.
As a company or a family rather, Infinity Solutions is a group of experienced and
well rounded team in implementing Odoo solution. That expertise is also
complemented with years of implementing other tier-1 ERP solutions in large
enterprises across multiple industry sectors in previous career paths.
As the longest tenured Odoo Partner in the country since 2010, the primary focus
has been delivering Odoo based solutions. Why Odoo? Because, the company truly
believe that everyone and every organization deserves to enjoy a business
software that gives freedom. Freedom from being vendor-locked-in, freedom of
improving the solution itself, freedom of ultimately owning the solution itself....to
say the least.
Infinity Solution is the currently the oldest Odoo partner providing service along
with other Odoo partners around the world. Odoo S.A. itself is the software editor
of the Business Application Suite called Odoo. Formerly known as OpenERP, Odoo
S.A. was founded in 2004 by Fabien Pinckaers, its current CEO. The company
consists of 250 employees, 6 offices (Belgium, San Francisco, New York,
Luxembourg, India and Hong Kong). Odoo thrives in a unique and fully open
ecosystem combining the resources of its open source community, partners and
resellers. With activities in 120 countries, Odoo can count on its vast network of
more than 550 official partners who provide the solutions locally.

CHAPTER 2 - LEARNING EXPERIENCE
General
Throughout the internship I learned a lot of important thing in the company in
which most of them are related to soft skills. Although this may not be clearly seen,
soft skills are very crucial in the business world.
My supervisor said that it is important for us as someone working in the IT to
develop our communication skill since it is as important as our technical skills.
Often times people working in IT does not have a good communication skill; hence,
they are not able to communicate well with the client.
During my internship, I observed and learned a lot the proper way to communicate
with client. Not only as simple as being polite, but the variety and selection of
words that is used to converse with the client. I observed that my supervisor used
a lot of professional terms while explaining the product to the client.
I also learned a lot of new technical words or terms that are used at work. For
example, instead of download we used pull, and instead of upload we used push.
Teamwork is also one of the important things that I learned throughout my
internship. I can see that all the employees consider each other as not only a friend
but as a family. When one has a problem, others will be willing to help despite of
the difficulty. Personally I encounter so many difficulties when carrying out some
of my tasks. No matter how simple my question is or even how silly my question
is, my co-workers are always willing to help me although I’m just an intern. Not
only my co-workers but my supervisors are always available and willing to help me
when I encounter difficulties.
I also personally learned a lot from my supervisor. Instead of being a boss he is
being a leader. He sits among us and having the same desk with us rather than
being in a private room for himself. This way it doesn’t only show that he’s humble
but it also allows his employees to communicate well and better with him. He
positioned himself among us rather than above of us.

Specific
Instead of just learning one specific knowledge or concept throughout my
internship, my assignment varies in different areas of IT from creating salary rules
while configuring the payroll module, experience learning the ERP’s business logic,
setting up VMware servers, setting up Ubuntu server operating system, assisting
in web development of the company’s website, analysing python codes, to
research and development of Odoo database migration.
My first assignment during internship is more of an introduction to the ERP. My
assignment was to setup the proper environment to run Odoo version 9 and 7 to
carry out my assignments. This is when I put to practice the lessons I learned
related to the object oriented programming, although the programming language
used is Python, which I have never learned before, rather than Java. From this
assignment I started to feel how the Python programming language is much
simpler but yet more powerful compared to the Java programming language.
Through this exercise I’m also getting used to using the Ubuntu Linux command
line and reading error logs which I have only experienced a little at the first
semester database class.
After successfully installing the environment, my next task is to research methods
of database migration from the currently used OpenERP version 7 to Odoo’s latest
release version 9. This task is one of the most if not the most challenging task
since I still have a lot to learn about the basics of ERP and python programming.
This also requires me to recall my knowledge about PostgreSQL since the database
used by the OpenERP is not the usual MySQL but rather PostgreSQL which I’m not
used to deal with. In this assignment, I have to be able to analyse all the
architecture, structure, and flow of the ERP in both version 7 and 9 to be able to
carry out the migration. This assignment is very challenging since there are very
less online source or documentations that I can refer to. Most of the documentation
and online guide available are about the migration to version 8 of Odoo instead of
version 9. This is also a new experience for me since I have to research and try

Information Technology 2014 Leonardo Kurnia
Page 10 of 15
solving problems with less assistance from online references; moreover, the tools
and support for migration to version 9 are still under development.
Beside doing some research and experiments on migration, my supervisor also
shifted my assignments temporarily to focus more on assisting in the completion
of the company’s web development. In this assignment, I will put to practice some
of my knowledge from my second semester web programming lesson; however,
the company website is not configured or developed using a direct web
programming codes, but using Wordpress content management system in which I
have little experience and knowledge about. I learned that using Wordpress or
similar content management system can reduce a lot of work load required while
coding web from a blank page, and thus speeds up the web development process.
While carrying out the migration task, I experimented on a tool developed by the
Odoo Community Association (OCA) called OpenUpgrade to perform migrations at
different Odoo database versions. This tool, nevertheless, only supports migration
up to version 8 of Odoo. OpenUpgrade for branch 9 is till under development. This
assignment requires me to read and learn a lot from an online documentation
provided by OCA including utilizing the information available their GitHub. While
experimenting with OpenUpgrade I encounter a lot of difficulties and errors which
I have to troubleshoot and resolve with less online resource or guide.
Another assignment that is given to me is to configure the payroll module
requested directly from the client. This assignment is not only focusing on the
technical side of ERP but also the functional side since it requires me to understand
the flow and some of the business logic used at the employee payroll module.
While carrying out this assignment, I learned about the payroll flow from
employee, employee working contract, salary rules, salary structure, and the
employee pay slip. My assignment, specifically, is to configure the salary rules
considering the local taxation rules and insurance which requires me to do a
research about the Indonesian tax rules, then create the python code for all the
salary rules. This is another quite challenging task for me since I have never before
dealt with taxes. The assignment allows me to become more familiar with the local
Internship Report - PT. Vikasa Infinity Anugrah
Information Technology 2014 Leonardo Kurnia
Page 11 of 15
tax calculation rules which will be very useful for me in the future. After configuring
the salary rules, I was assign to validate and test the salary rules along with one
of my co-workers who is a business analyst; this assignment requires me to
practice team work being able to work with my fellow co-workers. Since the
assignment is related to the company’s ongoing project, I have to be able to pace
myself to finish my work and allow some time for my work to be tested together
with my co-worker before the deadline.
After completing the configuration of the salary rules I’m also really grateful that I
can have the experience to come along in a training session meeting with client as
an observer and seeing my work being tested directly in front of the client as well.
This way I am able to see the whole process from development up to the
presentation for the client.
Beside working with salary rules python expressions, I was also assigned to create
some scheduled action configuration related to the payroll module itself to resolve
problems faced due to limitations of the salary rules python expressions; moreover,
I was also assigned to create a file upload import configuration for overtime
calculation allowing the user to upload a spreadsheet in form of CSV then importing
the data to the database.
Another task assigned to me focuses in the area of operating system level. The
company’s internal server experienced a crash and therefore need to be completely
reinstalled. This assignment is an opportunity for me to learn setting up a VMware
server platform from a blank start. This assignment challenges and pushes me
further to learn and get used to the Ubuntu Linux command line since the server
operating system does not have any GUI. I was assigned to reinstall the VM
operating system for both the company’s website and the company’s internal ERP
system. I learned a lot of new things from configuring network of the VM operating
systems, SSH connections, setting up apache server, and the management of
multiple VM itself. This can be one of the most important knowledge that can be
very useful for my future study and work.
Internship Report - PT. Vikasa Infinity Anugrah
Information Technology 2014 Leonardo Kurnia
Page 12 of 15
The last task assigned to me is related back to the database migration to version
9. I was asked to research about another tool developed by another IT
development group that can be used for migration called ETL (export, transform,
load). This method is very similar to the export-import method of the Odoo data
migration and looks more promising to migrate data to version 9. The module is
initially configured to run migration up to version 8; I was assigned to modify some
of the codes and resolve errors to allow migration to version 9. This assignment is
another challenging task for me since there is absolutely no English version
documentation for this migration method, therefore I will be required to analyse
the flow of the module and later attempt to perform the migration.
Last but not least, I was also asked to create a documentation for the research
that I have made in relation to the Odoo database migration from OpenERP version
7 to Odoo version 9.
Major Obstacles
Personally, I do not face any major obstacle throughout my internship. My only
concern during my internship is my punctuality and adaptation to the work
environment. Since there is no strict time constraint at the office, I’m having a
difficult time to practice commitment and punctuality which is one of the area that
I have to work on improving. This is also my first experience not having a long
holiday during Christmas which I still have to get used to when working in a
professional world in the future.
Suggestions
To be able to solve my punctuality issue I believe that a specific start time have to
be enforced at my working environment and practice on my self commitment so
that I may improve myself. I realize that punctuality will be a great concern for me
when working in a larger company which may considers tardiness. I should not
keep on compromising my commitment to my schedule.

CHAPTER 3 - CONCLUSION
The internship has been a really useful experience for me that I can learn a lot of
new knowledge that will definitely be useful for my future study. I’m grateful that
my assignments have a lot of variety instead of just focusing on a specific area.
This allows me to be able to learn more and also challenge myself to overcome
many different kinds of difficulties encountered during my internship. Having many
assignments also require me to manage my work time efficiently prioritizing the
urgent tasks.
Some task requires me to do a research with less available online documentation,
other task requires me to make attempts on works that I have never experienced
before just by learning from documentations. Although the tasks may be difficult
and overwhelming sometimes, I’m really excited to push my skill to the limit and
carry out those tasks assigned to me.
Beside technical skills, I also observed and learned a lot of soft skills from my
supervisors and my co-workers such as professional communication and
teamwork. I have also learned a lot from my supervisor who’s always willing to
help me when I face difficulties and also willing to share a lot of his knowledge
and wisdom to me from his past experience.
My internship experience has definitely improved my hard skills in IT and sharpen
my soft skills a lot more than I expected. It have shaped a better mind-set in me
and motivated me to keep on exploring and challenging myself in the world of
information technology.

Vikasa Infinity Anugrah Information Technology 2014 Leonardo Kurnia Page 8 of 15 CHAPTER 2 - LEARNING EXPERIENCE General Throughout the internship I learned a lot of important thing in the company in which most of them are related to soft skills. Although this may not be clearly seen, soft skills are very crucial in the business world. My supervisor said that it is important for us as someone working in the IT to develop our communication skill since it is as important as our technical skills. Often times people working in IT does not have a good communication skill; hence, they are not able to communicate well with the client. During my internship, I observed and learned a lot the proper way to communicate with client. Not only as simple as being polite, but the variety and selection of words that is used to converse with the client. I observed that my supervisor used a lot of professional terms while explaining the product to the client. I also learned a lot of new technical words or terms that are used at work. For example, instead of download we used pull, and instead of upload we used push. Teamwork is also one of the important things that I learned throughout my internship. I can see that all the employees consider each other as not only a friend but as a family. When one has a problem, others will be willing to help despite of the difficulty. Personally I encounter so many difficulties when carrying out some of my tasks. No matter how simple my question is or even how silly my question is, my co-workers are always willing to help me although I’m just an intern. Not only my co-workers but my supervisors are always available and willing to help me when I encounter difficulties. I also personally learned a lot from my supervisor. Instead of being a boss he is being a leader. He sits among us and having the same desk with us rather than being in a private room for himself. This way it doesn’t only show that he’s humble but it also allows his employees to communicate well and better with him. He positioned himself among us rather than above of us.
  • 9. Internship Report - PT. Vikasa Infinity Anugrah Information Technology 2014 Leonardo Kurnia Page 9 of 15 Specific Instead of just learning one specific knowledge or concept throughout my internship, my assignment varies in different areas of IT from creating salary rules while configuring the payroll module, experience learning the ERP’s business logic, setting up VMware servers, setting up Ubuntu server operating system, assisting in web development of the company’s website, analysing python codes, to research and development of Odoo database migration. My first assignment during internship is more of an introduction to the ERP. My assignment was to setup the proper environment to run Odoo version 9 and 7 to carry out my assignments. This is when I put to practice the lessons I learned related to the object oriented programming, although the programming language used is Python, which I have never learned before, rather than Java. From this assignment I started to feel how the Python programming language is much simpler but yet more powerful compared to the Java programming language. Through this exercise I’m also getting used to using the Ubuntu Linux command line and reading error logs which I have only experienced a little at the first semester database class. After successfully installing the environment, my next task is to research methods of database migration from the currently used OpenERP version 7 to Odoo’s latest release version 9. This task is one of the most if not the most challenging task since I still have a lot to learn about the basics of ERP and python programming. This also requires me to recall my knowledge about PostgreSQL since the database used by the OpenERP is not the usual MySQL but rather PostgreSQL which I’m not used to deal with. In this assignment, I have to be able to analyse all the architecture, structure, and flow of the ERP in both version 7 and 9 to be able to carry out the migration. This assignment is very challenging since there are very less online source or documentations that I can refer to. Most of the documentation and online guide available are about the migration to version 8 of Odoo instead of version 9. This is also a new experience for me since I have to research and try
  • 10. Internship Report - PT. Vikasa Infinity Anugrah Information Technology 2014 Leonardo Kurnia Page 10 of 15 solving problems with less assistance from online references; moreover, the tools and support for migration to version 9 are still under development. Beside doing some research and experiments on migration, my supervisor also shifted my assignments temporarily to focus more on assisting in the completion of the company’s web development. In this assignment, I will put to practice some of my knowledge from my second semester web programming lesson; however, the company website is not configured or developed using a direct web programming codes, but using Wordpress content management system in which I have little experience and knowledge about. I learned that using Wordpress or similar content management system can reduce a lot of work load required while coding web from a blank page, and thus speeds up the web development process. While carrying out the migration task, I experimented on a tool developed by the Odoo Community Association (OCA) called OpenUpgrade to perform migrations at different Odoo database versions. This tool, nevertheless, only supports migration up to version 8 of Odoo. OpenUpgrade for branch 9 is till under development. This assignment requires me to read and learn a lot from an online documentation provided by OCA including utilizing the information available their GitHub. While experimenting with OpenUpgrade I encounter a lot of difficulties and errors which I have to troubleshoot and resolve with less online resource or guide. Another assignment that is given to me is to configure the payroll module requested directly from the client. This assignment is not only focusing on the technical side of ERP but also the functional side since it requires me to understand the flow and some of the business logic used at the employee payroll module. While carrying out this assignment, I learned about the payroll flow from employee, employee working contract, salary rules, salary structure, and the employee pay slip. My assignment, specifically, is to configure the salary rules considering the local taxation rules and insurance which requires me to do a research about the Indonesian tax rules, then create the python code for all the salary rules. This is another quite challenging task for me since I have never before dealt with taxes. The assignment allows me to become more familiar with the local
  • 11. Internship Report - PT. Vikasa Infinity Anugrah Information Technology 2014 Leonardo Kurnia Page 11 of 15 tax calculation rules which will be very useful for me in the future. After configuring the salary rules, I was assign to validate and test the salary rules along with one of my co-workers who is a business analyst; this assignment requires me to practice team work being able to work with my fellow co-workers. Since the assignment is related to the company’s ongoing project, I have to be able to pace myself to finish my work and allow some time for my work to be tested together with my co-worker before the deadline. After completing the configuration of the salary rules I’m also really grateful that I can have the experience to come along in a training session meeting with client as an observer and seeing my work being tested directly in front of the client as well. This way I am able to see the whole process from development up to the presentation for the client. Beside working with salary rules python expressions, I was also assigned to create some scheduled action configuration related to the payroll module itself to resolve problems faced due to limitations of the salary rules python expressions; moreover, I was also assigned to create a file upload import configuration for overtime calculation allowing the user to upload a spreadsheet in form of CSV then importing the data to the database. Another task assigned to me focuses in the area of operating system level. The company’s internal server experienced a crash and therefore need to be completely reinstalled. This assignment is an opportunity for me to learn setting up a VMware server platform from a blank start. This assignment challenges and pushes me further to learn and get used to the Ubuntu Linux command line since the server operating system does not have any GUI. I was assigned to reinstall the VM operating system for both the company’s website and the company’s internal ERP system. I learned a lot of new things from configuring network of the VM operating systems, SSH connections, setting up apache server, and the management of multiple VM itself. This can be one of the most important knowledge that can be very useful for my future study and work.
  • 12. Internship Report - PT. Vikasa Infinity Anugrah Information Technology 2014 Leonardo Kurnia Page 12 of 15 The last task assigned to me is related back to the database migration to version 9. I was asked to research about another tool developed by another IT development group that can be used for migration called ETL (export, transform, load). This method is very similar to the export-import method of the Odoo data migration and looks more promising to migrate data to version 9. The module is initially configured to run migration up to version 8; I was assigned to modify some of the codes and resolve errors to allow migration to version 9. This assignment is another challenging task for me since there is absolutely no English version documentation for this migration method, therefore I will be required to analyse the flow of the module and later attempt to perform the migration. Last but not least, I was also asked to create a documentation for the research that I have made in relation to the Odoo database migration from OpenERP version 7 to Odoo version 9. Major Obstacles Personally, I do not face any major obstacle throughout my internship. My only concern during my internship is my punctuality and adaptation to the work environment. Since there is no strict time constraint at the office, I’m having a difficult time to practice commitment and punctuality which is one of the area that I have to work on improving. This is also my first experience not having a long holiday during Christmas which I still have to get used to when working in a professional world in the future. Suggestions To be able to solve my punctuality issue I believe that a specific start time have to be enforced at my working environment and practice on my self commitment so that I may improve myself. I realize that punctuality will be a great concern for me when working in a larger company which may considers tardiness. I should not keep on compromising my commitment to my schedule.
  • 13. Internship Report - PT. Vikasa Infinity Anugrah Information Technology 2014 Leonardo Kurnia Page 13 of 15 CHAPTER 3 - CONCLUSION The internship has been a really useful experience for me that I can learn a lot of new knowledge that will definitely be useful for my future study. I’m grateful that my assignments have a lot of variety instead of just focusing on a specific area. This allows me to be able to learn more and also challenge myself to overcome many different kinds of difficulties encountered during my internship. Having many assignments also require me to manage my work time efficiently prioritizing the urgent tasks. Some task requires me to do a research with less available online documentation, other task requires me to make attempts on works that I have never experienced before just by learning from documentations. Although the tasks may be difficult and overwhelming sometimes, I’m really excited to push my skill to the limit and carry out those tasks assigned to me. Beside technical skills, I also observed and learned a lot of soft skills from my supervisors and my co-workers such as professional communication and teamwork. I have also learned a lot from my supervisor who’s always willing to help me when I face difficulties and also willing to share a lot of his knowledge and wisdom to me from his past experience. My internship experience has definitely improved my hard skills in IT and sharpen my soft skills a lot more than I expected. It have shaped a better mind-set in me and motivated me to keep on exploring and challenging myself in the world of information technology.
