2. INTRODUCTION
• TTPL was incorporated on 18th December 1946, to produce
pigment grade Titanium Dioxide from ilmenite
• TTPL is a public limited company under the State Public Sector
with the Government of Kerala owning 80.94% of the shares.
• Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) holds
7.91% and the balance is held by the public.
• There are approximately 826 Employees and 110 officers in the
company.
3. OBJECTIVES
• To study the overall performance of the company.
• To understand the actual functioning of the organization.
• To know about the practical application of various learned theories in
the organization.
• To make a SWOT analysis of the organization.
4. ORGANIZATIONAL ANALYSIS
• Travancore Titanium Products Limited, an ISO 9001:2015 company is a
Public Sector Undertaking under the administrative control of
Government of Kerala, India engaged in the manufacturing and
marketing of different grades of Titanium dioxide pigments.
• The process followed by Travancore Titanium Products Ltd for the
production of Titanium is Sulphate process using Sulphuric acid.
• The illmenite for the production of TiO2 is found on the beaches at
Chavara near Kollam and 65 kms north of the Capital city,
Thiruvananthapuram.
• A new pollution controlled Sulphuric acid plant was established and
started production in 1996 which utilizes the tail gas recycling DCDA
(Double Catalysis Double Absorption) technology.
5. POSITIONING OF THE INTERN AND ACTIVITIES
The intern was allotted to the HR department of the organization and had
the following duties-
• To conduct an overall organization study.
• Update our internal databases with new employee information,
including contact details and employment forms.
• Gather payroll data like leaves, working hours and bank accounts.
• Prepare and submit daily verbal reports of learnings.
• Address employee queries about benefits (like number of remaining
vacation days).
• Participate in organizing company events and careers days.
6. CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE FIRM
• Took the initiative in helping the HR department conduct various
training programmes and visits of the plant.
• Made a tentative report about various measures that can be taken to
calm down the surrounding community and assure them of pollution
control.
• Aided the workers with explanation during plant visits to interns from
outside Kerala.
7. KNOWLEDGE GAINED
• Gained first- hand knowledge about how an organization functions, the
holistic approach required to make it efficient and the vital roles played
by each and every department towards the same.
• Acquired detailed information about the Titanium Dioxide market and
measures on how to stand firm in a market wherein there exists giants
like Chemours, Cristal as well as Tronox.
• Comprehended how to actually conduct a SWOC analysis in the
practical field.
• Learned about the differences between various global customers and
how to cater marketing approaches for each of them separately.
8. CONCLUSION
• The internship helped in perceiving the overall functioning of the
organization as well individual and deep insights of each department.
• Pollution is one of the main problems faced by the company.
• As the company is a PSU, government sanction is needed for most of the
process and hence administrative delay is of great concern for the firm.
• High production costs and tough competition both inside and outside the
country makes for an urgent need to think of counter measures.
• These can however be confronted by the company’s CSR activities,
sustainability and product mix.
• Yet another vital measure to undertake is the updating of technology
throughout the organization.
