                                                                                                   Lathe is a machine, which removes the
                                                                                                    metal from a piece of work to the
                                                                                                    required shape & size.

                                                                                                   Lathe is forerunner of all machine tools.

                                                                                                   Used for turning, tapering, form turning,
                                                                                                    screw cutting, facing, drilling, boring,
                                                                                                    spinning, grinding and polishing
                                                                                                    operations




                Lathe Operations
Turning: produce straight, conical, curved, or grooved
      workpieces

Facing: to produce a flat surface at the end of the part or
for making face grooves.
 
B oring: to enlarge a hole or cylindrical cavity made by a
previous process or to produce circular internal grooves.
 
Drilling: to produce a hole by fixing a drill in the tailstock
 
T hreading: to produce external or internal threads
 
K nurling: to produce a regularly shaped roughness on
cylindrical surfaces

                                                                                    Always attempt to observe safety rules

                                                                                    cuttings, tools and workpieces
                                                                                    Never attempt to stop a lathe chuck or driveplate by hand
                                                                                    B sure chuck or faceplate mounted securely before

                                                                                    Do not operate lathe until understand controls
                                                                                    Never operate machine if safety guards removed
