Internet industrialization is now inevitable as automation technologies allow for the mass custom production of perfect code through synthesis from plain language models. This will enable the mass production of intelligent robots and software to automate human systems at scale, displacing handcrafted code and media processing. By fully understanding the deep mechanics of software and programs, synthesis can automatically generate secure and optimized code from practical language designs to power the future industrialized internet.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

2. Internet Industrialization is Now Inevitable
all human mass systems eventually industrialize
now the time has come to industrialize the Internet
by building a universal printing press for custom code
using state of the art engineering automation science
and eliminating antique computer science craftwork
to create trillions of dollars of new annual GDP value
by automating the management of all mass systems
this achieving the ultimate perfection of the Internet
3. Robots Will Rule the Industrialized Internet
these are soft robots that model and manage things
and control solid robots that make and move things
they mechanize the minutiae of human mass systems
each is fully mass customized for a practical purpose
using really smart synthetic specialized custom code
each of us will have thousands of Internet robots
and every medium size business will have millions
for agile automation replacing data processing
4. Building The River Rouge of Internet Robots
the industrialized Internet needs trillions of robots
so now we need a vast Internet robot factory
producing a trillion lines of perfect code daily
an supporting billions of robot designers
automated design factories at this scale already exist
long commonplace in automotive and aerospace
now we must build a new kind for the Internet
to mass custom produce smart Internet robots
5. Robots Industrialize the Future Internet, Not the Past
today most code does some kind of media processing
e.g. websites, web services, email, data processing
this is the sort that’s the easiest to handcraft
mechanization code is really hard to handcraft
but it’s the only kind that can be mass synthesized
and it’s ideal for Internet industrialization
mechanization will mostly displace media processing
doing old things in new way plus endless new things
with far more smarts, safety, security, and scalability
6. Internet Software Technology is Primitive Today
Flintstones technology: zero testable technology base
pure preindustrial pattern craftwork on a huge scale
software is crafted in the manner of symphonies
based on a vast legacy of workable patterns
brilliant work, but really bad engineering practice
all handcrafted code is slow, sloppy, and stupid
far too much effort and expense, time and trouble
above all 99% of feasible code can’t be handcrafted
7. Synthesis Fully Perfects Practical Software Production
the age of robots will require torrents of perfect code
in order to power huge soft and solid robot systems
but human beings are terrible at handcrafting code
there aren’t nearly enough coders to do the job
and most of the code required can’t be handcrafted
engineered synthetics is the only workable solution
it’s mature technology ready to do the job right now
this is time-test, trustworthy, true high technology
that explains everything and does all that’s needed
8. Synthesis Start With Fully Understanding Software
software progress has been stagnant since the 1960s
handcrafting today is much like it was back then
yet digital hardware has advanced a millionfold
that’s because computer science has failed us
while empirical engineering advances steadily
CS mathematics can only explain software trivially
today automation science is fifty years out in front
with a workable mechanistic understanding
that explains all we that can ever know
about every kind of practical software
9. Synthetic Software is the New Internet Normal
radically bigger, better, cheaper, and faster in all ways
mass custom production that’s too cheap to charge
so handcrafted software can’t hope to compete
industrialization always happens in the same way
by automating the deep mechanics of practice
so pattern craftwork rapidly declines then disappears
the new Internet innovation cycle is five minutes
and everyone can easily innovate anything
so hacker culture and hacker capitalism are doomed
10. Mastering the Deep Mechanics of Code
this the key to all successful code industrialization
computers and code are merely machines after all
so they’re entirely explicable by empirical mechanics
and computer science mathematics is irrelevant
but code is about everything practical
so you need universal practical mechanics
this is provided by engineering automata theory
modeled entirely with familiar plain language
which is the universal practice modeling medium
11. Now We Need A Synopsys of Software
Synopsys (SNPS) is a digital circuit synthesis leader
digital code synthesis is nearly the same problem
that’s because code is just frozen circuitry after all
the heart of your smartphone is a silicon SOC
a System on a Chip with many 100M devices
these have been routinely synthesized for decades
a huge engineered systems of vast complexity
developed automatically with engineered synthetics
in future all code will be mass produced in this way
12. Turning Practical Language into Practical Programs
everyone has a Ph.D. in practical language
so it’s the ideal design medium for practical programs
necessary and sufficient for all practical purposes
and far superior to any programming language
practical language is entirely mechanistic
programs are entirely mechanistic
both use the same plain logic mechanisms
so program production can be mass mechanized
using plain language and logic as the feedstock
13. Universal Automation of Practical Design
every pencil is an ideal universal design tool
plain language is the perfect design medium
plain language models express plain logic
this practical logic is entirely mechanistic
design automation tools extract this logic
to build differential dynamic automata structures
which is then synthesized into perfect code
and this works well for all practical purposes
14. Solving the Vexing Internet Security Problem
all handcrafted code is intrinsically insecure
because the deep mechanics are a mystery
so we aren’t sure where the doors and windows are
and the bad folks just need to find one left open
all synthetic code is intrinsically secure
because the deep mechanics are well understood
so we know where all the doors and windows are
and these are easily defensible
15. Mass Custom Specialized Solid Robotics
a huge new opportunity possible with 3D printing
custom 3D printed robots optimal for a specific task
100 of these can fully automate shoe manufacturing
each robot has a unique design and unique dynamics
soft robots are required to manage these solid robots
with extreme application adaptivity and agility
and to orchestrate complex systems of custom robots
also to coordinate with smart perceptual automation
soon there will be billions of custom solid robots
mechanizing the minutia of all making and moving
16. Summary
Internet industrialization is now at the tipping point
privately funded primary innovation paves the way
plain language information modeling is enabling
breaking the big bottleneck technology barrier
letting us synthesize programs from plain language
providing the best custom code production possible
perfect code mass produced at the push of a button
with none of the huge failings of handcrafted code
just exactly the code you need when you need it
to maximize the success of what you’re doing now
