Guyana is officially named the Co operative Republic of Guyana. It is a country on the northern
mainland of South America. Guyana is an indigenous word which means "Land of Many Waters."
Guyana is the third-smallest sovereign state by area in mainland South America and one of the
least densely populated countries on Earth. It has a wide variety of natural habitats and a very high
biodiversity.
Guyana is the only South American nation in which English is the official language. However, the
majority of the population speak Guyanese Creole, an English-based creole language, as a first
language.
Guyana is part of the Anglophone Caribbean. Guyana achieved independence from the United
Kingdom as a dominion on 26 May 1966 and became a republic on 23 February 1970, remaining a
member of the Commonwealth.
The flag of Guyana, known as The Golden Arrowhead, has been the national flag of Guyana since
May, 1966 when the country became independent from the United Kingdom.
The capital city is Georgetown (I am from this city).
I was born and raised in Kolkata (former Calcutta) in eastern India. India is the largest country in
South Asia and second in size to China in the continent of Asia. It is one of the oldest civilizations
in the world. It is home to at least 18 major languages, each with its script and rich literature and
millions of speakers, and more than a thousand dialects. India is a former British colony and that
is why 'English' is considered one of India's languages.
The city I was born in, Kolkata, is also home to three Nobel Laureates, including the first Nobel
laureate from Asia. Tagore won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913.
Librarianship: My career as a librarian began in the city of Rochester, in New York state, USA.
Current city and state: I work in San Jose in California, USA. San Jose is also known as the
capital of Silicon Valley.
Tanzania is an East African country known for its vast wilderness areas.
Include the plains of Serengeti National Park, a safari mecca populated
by the “big five” game (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino), and Kili-
manjaro National Park, home to Africa’s highest mountain. Offshore lie
the tropical islands of Zanzibar, with Arabic influences, and Mafia, with a
marine park home to whale sharks and coral reefs.

Current Workplace: I am a Research Services Librarian
at the Zach S, Henderson Library on the Statesboro
campus of the Georgia Southern University (which is a
multi-campus institution).
Role: Research Services Librarian
What I enjoy most: The immense service-learning
opportunities of being a trained information
professional team player collaborating primarily with
the academic community: faculty, visiting scholars and
students in their scholarly, research and individual
pursuits.
What I'm excited about in the future: The vast skill set that every trained librarian will acquire and amply apply to their specific roles and functions within the
profession in order to provide a holistic knowledge experience that the digital and technological sphere demands is what excited me about the future.
Current State: I live in the state of Georgia in the US

Current city and state: I work in San Jose in California, USA. San Jose is also known as the capital of Silicon Valley.
San Jose State University Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library (King Library)
Name of library: The library is named after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and is the university library for San Jose State
University, the flagship campus of the 23-campus California State University system. It is one of the few libraries in the
United States that combines a public library system and an academic library system within the same building.
Role: Collection Strategy Librarian. I work with a team to review usage of our electronic resources and take decisions for
subscription decisions - renewal or cancellation. Renewing or canceling print resources such as standing orders of print
serials and allocating budgets for subject-based librarians to place firm orders for their departments also come under
my purview.
What I enjoy most: The ability to determine the breadth and depth of resources that will help our students and faculty
in their research and learning.
What I'm excited about in the future: As the research landscape changes, I am excited to see how librarians can adapt
to the new technologies and methodologies and continue to provide resources to new and established scholars.
Librarianship: My career as a librarian began 2017 when I joined the University of Dar es
Salaam for Bachelor Degree in Library and Information Studies. My friends and relatives did
not understand and they tried to convince me to take other profession because the
profession was not familiar to them. Today I am happy that I am a Librarian, and I am
planning to join masters degree of Library and Information Studies on October, 2023.
Role: I am working as Assistant Librarian Trainee at Ardhi University. I conduct information
literacy training to undergraduate, postgraduate students, and staff around Ardhi
University; research consultancy, management of Institutional Repository and digitization
of library materials.
What I enjoy most: From this programme, I enjoy most the questions and answers session
with my partners as they increased my knowledge and skills in project proposal writings,
involvement in presentations and the need of marketing of the librarianship profession.

Apart from that, I was surprised with two things. First, even in the US people think librarians role only shelving and
circulating books. Second, most of librarians are white people compared with black.
What I'm excited about in the future: In the future, the programme has to includes the trainings and workshops related
to librarianship
